Good Cop - Smart Cop

In about 1975 I was a Sgt in the CCP Traffic division. I believe that Rick was working with Randy Sabo on Hit and Run Investigations. They were called to the Westgate hotel parking lot where a young man pointed out damage to the right front of his father's car. He said that he had been in the hotel and found the damage when he came out.

Rick and Randy did not believe the story so they had the car towed to our lot one. Soon there were phone calls and letter to Chief Sawyer with requests that the officers be fired. I invited the father to come down and meet with me to go to lot one and have a look at the vehicle. There was extensive damage to the right front of the vehicle so we opened up the hood. What we saw was that the fan blades had cut a big round hole out of the radiator.

I said "you know that never happens when the vehicle has been left parked and unattended"  The owner of the car looked at that for some time before he said " I think I owe someone an apology." I said " yes and I want that in writing; these officers are not rookies and they knew what they were doing."

I believe they got that letter of apology.
