Obituary

Brian Elaschuk
June 12th, 1964 - October 7th, 2019

On Monday, October 7, 2019 Brian Elaschuk loving spouse, father and grandfather passed away suddenly.

Brian was born on June 12, 1964 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to John and Anne (Panasiuk) Elaschuk. He was the youngest of their 5 children. Brian followed in his father's footsteps working as an auto body man and in February of 2000 Brian received his journeyman red seal certificate as an auto body technician.

Brian was a loving and very supportive father to his 2 children, Nicholis and Jennifer. In 2014 Nicholis and his spouse Chantel had a son, Leo. Brian loved his grandson and always had smiles and fun times when they were together.

In December of 2015 Brian started to rekindle a childhood friendship with his spouse Christine. This blossomed into a very special and loving relationship in July 2016 when she came to Calgary. They were inseparable from then on.

Brian loved his family and would often tell stories about growing up in Moose Jaw. He had a love of all sports and enjoyed taking a day to go golfing or racing with his buddies. Brian’s passion was his music. He loved going to concerts and played in many bands. His musical talents were extraordinary.

Brian will be sadly missed by many. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to go out of his way to help. He was known for his quick wit and infectious smile.

He is survived by his spouse Christine; his 2 children Nicholis (Chantel) and Jennifer; grandson Leo; parents John and Anne; 4 siblings Tim (Naomi), Marilyn (Al), Mike (Lila) and Margaret (Kim); as well as several cousins.

There will be 2 celebrations of life for Brian. The first celebration will be held in Calgary at the Border Crossing (1814 36 St SE) on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 1:30 pm. The second celebration will be in Moose Jaw at the Eagles Hall (561 Home Street West) on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 1:30 pm.

I grew up with Brian,

As boys we played hockey together for The Terriers and then the Owls (gold and black) Brian informed me much later in life that his favour hockey team has always been Boston Bruins (gold and black) because them were "his colours".

My favour memory (actually both mine and Brian's) favourite memory was:
One very hot Sask summer day we took our Horses (Brian boarded his horse "Napoochechy" at my father farm - don't think Brian picked the horses name - But maybe - LOL) anyway down to the river we went got the horses in deep water then we wrestled each other - objective being to knock the other one off his horse and into the water (which truth be told) was really really nasty Moose Jaw River water - we had great fun that day and Brian brought it up - almost every time we seen each other after that day.

As we grew we drifted apart and went on different career paths and had not seen or been in contact with each other for about 25 years, then one day i stopped at a local water hole in N.E. Calgary and as i was crossing the parking lot i looked up to see Brian standing out front of the entrance chatting with another fella (even after 25 years of not seeing him - all the way across the parking lot - i recognized Brian) he always stood out in a crowd that way.
We chatted had a long over due beer together that day then had the chance to play a few rounds of golf and beer in the next coming months we both enjoyed reconnecting and reminiscing. We were even able to catch a Black Sabbath concert together that fall, to quote Brian "he got to go see the Pope" .

My Condolences to all his friends and family members as he was a very unique man and always a good friend!
