Gawley, Allan
November 13, 1943 – December 1, 2019

Allan Gawley passed away on December 1, 2019 at the age of 76 in the Salvation Army Agape Hospice in Calgary, Alberta after losing his 20 month battle with cancer.

He was lovingly surrounded by his wife Margaret, two sons, James (Yordania) and Daniel (Lorna), and his daughter Tracy (Murray), who were at his bedside in his final hours of his life. Allan will be missed by his three grandchildren, Scuylar (Jeremy), Caleb and Gabrielle, and two great-grandchildren Kingsley and Everett. Allan was pre-deceased by his brother Rene (Barb), and will be dearly missed by his sisters Helena (Vaughn), Rita (Bill), Johanne (Rick), and Kathy (Mark).

Allan was an avid golfer, artist/craftsman and bricklayer. In his younger days he played old timers hockey and was an all-around handyman and lover of the land. When not on the golf course you would find him outside tinkering, fixing, working on his land or simply enjoying the view.

Memorial Service will be held at Falconridge Family Church (155 Falconridge Crescent NE) on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to Agape Hospice ( and Tom Baker Cancer Centre ( are appreciated. All our love from the Smiths. Wish we could be there and have you all in our thoughts and prayers! My favourite memories with Allan mainly all revolve around family summer vacations, going to the acreage out by Gravelbourg and of course the cabin at the lake by Calgary. I remember Allan trying to teach me to drive the golf did not go well from my end, but he kept his patience nonetheless! Him and Grandpa can play all the gold they want together now.

Thanks for sharing Amanda. We had a lot of fun at that cabin!

Alan and I had known each other through our family’s connection of three generations. We became reacquainted when the boys were young teenagers and the Gawley’s moved to Moose Jaw. After starting high school together at a catholic boys school we became very close friends.

The Gawley’s lived a few blocks from the school and got in the habit of meeting them at their house and walking up to St. Louis college together. I spent countless hours at their home over the next four years.

Alan, his brother Rene and I were were best of friends and had many teenage adventures together. I will miss him and think of my old friend’s good humor and kindness often.

Rest In Peace Alan
