Obituary

CLOAK, Cathryn (Cate) Jean
January 2, 1952 - Regina, Sask.
April 5, 2019 - Calgary, Alta.

After a short battle with Cancer, Cate passed away peacefully at home, she was 67 years young. She is survived by her daughter Jessie Cloak (Calgary) and her Brother Neville Clark (Winnipeg).

Cate was an incredibly talented Vocalist. She began her music career in early ’67 in Saskatoon singing vocals for the All Girl Band, Sect of Soul. She moved on to Winnipeg to make music with the Home Cooking band, signing with the Bootleg Band, and was a common voice on the radio signing many jingles and jamming with Burton Cummings and The Guess Who on weekends.

She then became a Mother and headed for a new life out west. She entered University of Calgary as a mature student, receiving her Diploma in Psychology. This education led her to work with addictions and recovery for 16+ years at Renfrew Recovery Center. In spite of her career she still made music as often as possible. Playing throughout Calgary and area with many different bands. Cate lived a full and wonderful life. She will be missed dearly.

We would like to sincerely thank the Foothills Hospital, Dr. Lloyd Mack and his Surgical Team. Dr. Stephanie Muir and the Foothills Palliative Team, as well as the angel nurses on Unit 41B. You all do incredible work. Thank God for people like you.

In honour of Cates life, a Celebration of Life picnic and jam will be scheduled for later this summer.

Rest In Peace Cate Cloak, you were an old soul, kind and full of compassion. You were a friend. You had a incredible singing voice and was instrumental in the all girls band Sect of Soul with Dawni and Eddie. My deepest condolences to your daughter Jessie and all of your family. You will be missed.

Momma, It's been 11 days since you died and I miss you more now than ever. I am so sorry that this horrible disease ravaged your body. I am so sorry you had to suffer. You were so brave. This was the fastest 97 days of my life. I am so grateful we got to be together through it all. Your beautiful, kind curious spirit is with me all day. I know what your heartbeat sounds like from the inside! It was always you and me, in the beginning and in the end. It was my honor to care for you. I am proud to be your daughter. Thank youf or all the great music you made, thank you for all the wonderful adventures we had. Thank you for loving me from wherever you are now. I miss and I lub U! Love, Jess xoxo

My heart breaks to know I have now lost my lifelong "soul sister" Cate. We have shared tears of sorrow and tears of joy together over our long friendship. With intense love and caring comes an equally intense sense of loss and grief, when that time comes. Cate was 14 years old when she joined our all girls band in Saskatoon. For more than 50 years, we each followed our hearts' choices and lived in very different areas creating music, other careers and relationships. Along with our other soul sister, Eddie, (god rest her soul) we forged a bond others called the "iron crew", fiercely loyal to one another. I will be eternally grateful that I had the opportunity to reunite with Cate last fall and we had a chance to spend precious time together again. Precious moments will now be spent with Cate's beloved daughter, Jessie. We love you so much Jess, our hearts break with yours, together we carry your mom's memory with you in our hearts. So many people adored Cate, loved her talent and will never ever forget her. She is truly a special soul and we are all better for having known and loved her. You have spent your life being a fierce warier for the Light, now you are with your source. Rest easy in profound peace, dear Cate. Until we meet again.............

Dawni, That is a really beautiful tribute. Mom loved you and Eddie so much, sometimes I think more than herself. You guys brought her SO much joy making music and taking adventures all over the place. And a family that could not be replaced. I imagine her with Eddie pickin guitar by a pond somewhere with Mom singing all the favs.
