Joy Moments with Kathleen:
Hi! This is definitely a sad time for all of us but let me express mine by writing some of my childhood memories with cousin Kathleen whom I have shared so many joy moments.
She even described it as "walay makalupig sa kasadya ang atong memories sa Sta Catalina"
For those who do not know Sta Catalina is the hometown of our fathers, therefore the 'earthly kingdom' of the Nuique's and the Opada's. We have Mama Aying and Yaya Conching as our pillars there who have nothing in their hearts but their nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. So it's sort of an obligatory shot for us to spend time with them especially during the town fiesta every 25th of April. And that's where Kathleen and I had these happenings.
Here's some of them:
We went to the circus sa plaza one night and we were so thrilled with the show. I could still recall how our eyes nearly popped out watching the sirko sirko and tumbling tumbling when suddenly it rained! Kapuliki mi pangita ka pasilungan... good thing the telon was thick enough to cover us but there were so many people so naipit mi pero pastilan even until now I could still draw clearly our happy faces that night.
Then one time we went to Alangilan to visit Uncle Amado( cousin of our fathers) Unfortunately he wasn't around but we were already sooo hungry so Kathleen and I went to their kitchen and ate their nilung-ag saging straight from their kaldero! Sus nibudlot ang mga mata nila Michelle because they hardly knew us, good thing Malis followed us so at last we were formally introduced to our cousins pero human nami panungkab! Sus maryosep maka-ulaw:-(
There was also one time we went to Manalongon to visit Maribel, our cousin. We were many so alingasa kaau mi sa likod sa Ceres with our giggles and all so some oldies in front complained: "Kinsa gud ng mga kanding sa likod alingasa kaau" But unfortunately for them Johnny Nuique, another cousin, overheard the comment so he shouted at us: "Hoy paghilom na kuno mo kay ga reklamo ning mga unggoy sa atubangan" Ooops that was so unruly of us and offensive for a comment but young as we were, everything were just taken lightly.
Kathleen won the hearts of many because she's not ulawon. She would gladly and readily introduce herself as 'Anak ni Abundio nga taga Binukot' in contrast to Carmela's line 'ay maulaw ko' Remember this Carm?
And here's more:
She married early. Among the cousins, she was one of the firsts so we were so excited for her. And you know what? Joyful as she was, she divided us into groups and excitedly recounted their honeymoon to us batch by batch. The storytelling happened in YaYa's room so everytime one group is done she would shout NEXT!!!
This is so Kathleen!
Hay:-( I have much more to tell but I guess it's enough to say God has been so gracious to you Kath. Thank you for letting us see your life which was well-lived and well-loved by many.
And to God our Father, the ultimate joy-giver, thank you for You have said in Your Word : For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 ESV
See you then Kath!
