Obituary for Sheila Lee Niles (Talbott)

Sheila Lee Niles (Talbott)
SHEILA LEE NILES (TALBOTT)
1928 - 2017

On Sunday, February 5, 2017 we lost Sheila, my life-long partner, a mother, grand and great grandmother, artist and companion to many in our community. She died at Oilfields General Hospital after five months of various events and complications. Sheila was 88 years ‘young’.

Sheila enthralled many with her beautiful fibre art work which filled her home. She was a true free spirit of creating where others dared not go.

Sheila was born in Seattle WA and moved as a teen with her family to her grandfather’s farm east of Lethbridge. She graduated from Trinity College, University of Toronto and she and Bill married immediately after her graduation and were together for 65 years.

In addition to her creative spirit she was an astounding mother to her five children, Paddy (who was killed in a road accident), Laurie (Mark) in Calgary, Christopher (Alison) Turner Valley, Alicia (Mario) Hamilton, ON and Sara (Kevin) Zionsville IN. Her enduring claim to fame included running ‘Granny Camp’ at their Millarville home for thirteen grandchildren and more recently two great grandchildren.

The family began its journey in Lethbridge, AB and then proceeded to explore the world moving to Caracas, Venezuela for eight years, Houston TX, Dobbs Ferry NY, Montreal, Toronto and lastly to their bit of heaven acreage near Millarville, AB.

Sheila will be cremated and there will be a memorial service when spring returns to Alberta and her spirit will join the beautiful woods surrounding their home.

Our warm thanks to the outstanding team at Oilfields who lavished such wonderful care of Sheila and provided such needed support to our entire family, and to the many folks who have sent their condolences.
