Obituary for Jackie MacLean

Jackie MacLean
MacLean, Jacqueline “Jackie” Dawn
February 26, 1936 - March 13, 2018

It is with profound sadness and heartache, that Jackie’s family announce her passing in Calgary on March 13, 2018 at the age of 82, to join her soul mate Peter. She will be forever cherished and lovingly remembered.

Jackie is survived by her son Dan (Juanita) MacLean; daughter Deleigh (David) McRae; grandsons Curtis and Benjamin MacLean and Craig McRae; brother Ken (Olga) Wik; niece Keni (Wayne) Bouvier, and nephew Ron (Sandra) Wik. She was predeceased by her husband Peter MacLean; parents Jack and Ruth Wik; and infant daughter Heather Dawn MacLean.

Jackie was born and raised in Swift Current, SK. She had a wonderful childhood with many, aunts, uncles and cousins, some as close as a sister. Enjoyment at family gatherings on the family farm near Gull Lake, SK was especially cherished. She attended Swift Current Comp High, played basketball, graduating in secretarial. Afterwards, she moved to Regina where she met her soul mate Pete at the PFRA project.

Jackie and Pete married in 1959, residing in Regina until they eventually moved to Calgary in 1972. She found enriching work assignments for the Rehabilitation Society of Calgary and then CDS Securities. Jackie was active at the Calgary Winter Club, playing tennis, and curling and was an avid bridge player – she played many a hand with her closest friends, the Symborski’s and McPhail’s, whose friendships endured for over 50 years. This led to many visits to both Shuswap and Windermere Lakes and generated many lasting memories of summers out at the lake, cross country skiing and the get-togethers to celebrate anniversaries, New Years, and Grey Cup parties. Upon her retirement, her focus on family gatherings, friends, and time with her three grandsons brought her great joy and love for many years.

She was a special lady, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend. She was deeply loved, enriched all our lives and will be so sorely missed. A Celebration of Jackie's life will be held at the Northminster United Church (3311 Centre Street North, Calgary) on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society (http://www.cancer.ca/en/?region=ab).
