Obituary for Phyllis Claire Leard (Stewart)

Phyllis Claire Leard (Stewart)
Phyllis Leard
(Sept 12, 1920, Biggar - Sept 19, 2017, Calgary)

Our family is announcing the death of Phyllis Leard, much loved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Aunt. Left to mourn are her children, Betty (Dale) Alsager, Patti (Lyle) Edwards, and Don (Shari) Leard, her grandchildren, Kim Custance (Mark), Dalene, Jay (Sharon) and Troy Alsager, Jeff (Kelly) and Kyle (Heather) Edwards and Leanne (Joe) Edwards Benekritis, Camie (Jason) and Mandy Leard, Scott (Winnie) Arnold, and Kari (Dave) Harder. She was blessed with 17 great grandkids.

Our Mom grew up in Biggar, Sask, graduated from nursing school, married Dad while he was still in the Royal Canadian Air Force, then moved to Edmonton where they lived happily for 65 years. Mom loved to participate in her community and over her lifetime she golfed, curled, played bridge, delivered Meals on Wheels and was actively involved in her church, which for many years was Highlands United. She was devoted to extended family and to many friends. As their health declined, Mom and Dad moved to Calgary to be closer to Patti and Don and our families. Betty and Dale would visit from Seattle when time and weather permitted. Following the loss of our Dad, J. Roy Leard in 2012, after 69 years of marriage, Mom continued to share her warm and friendly manner with family and the staff and residents of Eau Claire Seniors Residence. We are so appreciative of the wonderful care she received from the staff and Dr. Davies during more than 7 years at Eau Claire. As sad as it is to say our final good-bye, we celebrate the blessing of Mom’s 97 years of kindness, warmth and quick wit. That is what we will miss!

We will celebrate Mom’s life at a private family gathering in the near future.
