Obituary for Louise Rosemary O'Connell

Louise Rosemary O'Connell
Louise Rosemary O’Connell
Sept 23, 1949 - Toronto, Ontario
May 24, 2018 - Calgary, Alberta

Louise passed away after a lengthy illness in the wee hours of May 24, 2018.

She is survived by her loving wife Leslie Wilkins; her devoted son Craig Usselman; as well as faithful friends Ruth Patterson, Margo Delancey, and Greg Urantowka; and furry friends Lexie and Benji.

Louise was predeceased by her parents Denton (Bud) and Mary O'Connell; her Nana and beloved Poppa Eagles; Craig’s Dad Bruce Usselman; and her pets Clare, Trudy, Maggie and Yoda. Louise was an extreme animal lover, known for taking stray dogs in out of the rain. The dogs were a huge part of the love in her life.

Throughout her life, Louise loved to be surrounded by beautiful things. In her childhood, that was lake country in Ontario. In her adult life, Louise was an artist, contributing to the world’s beauty. In 1995, Louise suffered a brain injury. As a result, she was introduced to In-Definite Arts, which opened up a whole new world for her. It was the first time that she was part of an artists’ colony. The inspiration of the other artists allowed her own creativity to flourish. This was the main source of quality for the second half of her life.

More than anything, Louise loved. Leslie and Craig were lavished with love on a daily basis. That love spilled over to her friends and pets. No one could be in Louise’s presence and feel unloved.

Leslie and Craig would like to thank Dr. Ted Vant for 25 years of exceptional care, as well as Suzanne Pedwell and Maria Muryanti for making it possible for Louise to remain in her home.

Celebration of Life will be held at Roscarrack Community Centre (4411 10 Ave SW, Calgary) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted by In-Definite Arts (https://ouriac.ca/donate/).
