Mildred Dais Elvira Davis (Nee Gould)

It is with great sadness that we announce that our Mother passed away peacefully from her earthly journey on Sunday, April 12, 2020 in her 101st year. Having lived a long and beautiful life, her passing was neither unexpected nor particularly tragic, yet she will be terribly missed.

Mom was born August 5, 1919 in Buffalo View, Alberta to Oliver Gould and Mildred Day. She married Oron Davis in 1941 and they started their lives together in Wainwright. They moved to Elk Point in 1959 where they opened a General Store. Eleven years later they were off to Grand Center for 4 years, prior to retiring in Calgary in 1975. While living in Grand Center, Mom, in her late forties, braved learning how to drive!! It was also while living in Grand Center that Mom took her first “outside” job, as prior to
that she had stayed home to raise her family. Mom worked until her late sixties before retiring.

She leaves behind a large extended family who will cherish her memory – this includes her sons Phillip, Marvin, Paul and Barry; daughters Faith, Linda, Patricia and Debbie; 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and numerous extended family and friends. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband in 1988; her 3 brothers, Otis, Alec and Calvin and her sister, Jessie.

Mom was a woman of strong Christian faith, and the backbone of our family. We enjoyed large raucous family gatherings with lots of food, laughter, joy, and most importantly, love. Mom was always game for hiking, playing baseball, Crokinole and then Scrabble in her later years. After Dad passed, she adapted and remained a vibrant, independent, interesting woman. We are amazed at the amount of change that
she experienced and was witness to over her long life.

We are so thankful that we were able to be together to celebrate with Mom for her 100th birthday in 2019. Her passing will leave a hole in all of our hearts.

There will be a private family interment on Friday, April 17, 2020 and we plan to have a Memorial Service once we can gather again in large groups.

Gifts “In Memory Of” may be made. Please ensure you note “In Loving Memory of Dais Davis” to One Hope Canada (formerly Canadian Sunday School Mission)
