Margaret Rose Callahan
July 7, 1942 – October 9, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Rose Callahan announce her passing at age 78 on Friday October 9, 2020 after a brief illness.

Thank you all at FMC Units 36, 61 & 62 who helped our mother these last weeks and to all family and friends who reached out with support for Margaret and family during this difficult time.

Margaret will be greatly missed by her two daughters Lynn Taylor and Leigh Rambie (Fred) and two loving granddaughters Brittany Taylor and Stephanie Rambie all of Calgary.

Margaret was born to Peter and Victoria Martin July 7, 1942 at beautiful Fort Qu’Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan. Raised around the town of Lebret with siblings Joe and Maurice in a home of strong faith. Mom was proud of her Metis heritage. She met and married husband Joe Callahan in Regina 1962. Welcomed first daughter Lynn in Regina in 1963. They came to Calgary in 1965 where they then welcomed second daughter Leigh. Margaret and Joe parted ways but maintained their friendship over the years. Mom enjoyed and had many adventures with companion Barney Arnfinson for numerous years. Mom resided in Calgary for 55 yrs.

Mom worked very hard for her family, she held various jobs over the years before settling in at Canada Post as a Postal Clerk for 28 years until retirement.

She was involved in a lot of organizations. Canvased the neighborhood for different charity campaigns. She was very proud of her involvement with Girl Guides of Canada specifically Brownies as Brown Owl and she was a volunteer Elf right up to this past Christmas 2019 with Canada Post helping Santa with his letters. Most recent organizations to note are the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch 264, and The West Hillhurst Community Association Go-Getters.

She was fortunately able to travel a bit during her life. She attended a cross Europe camping tour with work friends, her favorite place to travel to was Paris. Other interests of Margaret were curling, darts, shuffleboard, gardening, sewing. Let’s not forget her huge successes playing slots at the casino.

Margaret was a very strong woman who loved life and family living it to its fullest. Mother was a loyal friend to many and treasured all these relationships immensely.

Beloved mother to Lynn and Leigh whom she would do anything for.

She adored and loved her granddaughters Brit and Steph and supported them in everything they did.
We celebrate Margaret everyday in our hearts. Our wish is to gather later to pay tribute to her life when we can all be safely together. Until then we find comfort knowing she is now at peace. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Margaret, please visit

Margaret and I became friends in our latter years at Lions Village. We shared many conversations / stories of growing up (as young Sask. girls) / entertained ourselves at Legions & Casinos and of course, always our appreciation of Wine!
I am saddened that she did not know the end results of the U.S. election as oh, we consumed a lot of time discussing this topic!
Remembering Margaret will always bring a smile to my face for knowing such a lovely Lady!
To Lynn, Leagh and Grandchildren: I extend my Sincere Sympathy & Condolences; much of the beauty of Life is found in people who Care!

I will always remember with great joy working with Mrs Callahan when she supervised the house keeping department @ the International Hotel here in Calgary during my times there in the summer’s 1974, & 1975.
