Donna Cadieux
March 10th, 1962 - December 21st, 2019

After a very short struggle with cancer and associated complications, Donna left her body at the far too young age of 57. She maintained her positivity and sense of humour right up until the end and was at peace and accepting - with a sense of wonder of what was in store for her next.

Donna was born in Scarborough, Ontario and moved with her family to Calgary in 1975. One of her first comments when we pulled into Calgary about 6 a.m. on Sept.12,1975, was "hey – the people look just like us". Apparently, she had been expecting a 'cowboy and cowgirl' environment. We laughed about that for many years. Donna was an adventurous, creative soul whose life was an ongoing mixture of good times and hard times. It is with profound sadness that we all must say "till we meet again".

Donna will be deeply missed by her mother, Evelyn Lawless; daughter, Crystal Akkermans; grandson, Pierce Akkermans; sister, Debbie Herring (Don); niece, Kim Bradley (Dan); her beloved fur baby, Murphy, as well as many close and dear friends and extended family. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Pat Lawless; her grandparents, and her good friend of many years Ronnie Bonar.

Many thanks for the excellent care provided by the dedicated and compassionate medical staff at Chinook Regional Hospital (Lethbridge), Oilfields General Hospital (Black Diamond), and Foothills Medical Centre (Calgary); with a special thanks to Dr. Martin LaBrie, Palliative Care Consultant at Foothills Medical Centre.

Cremation was provided by Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services. Photos, memories & condolences may be shared with Donna's family through A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held at a later date.

If so desired, donations in Donna's memory can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society .

Donna was my step sister her Mom married my Dad Patrick Lawless he passed about 2011.When I first met Donna in my early 20's I instantly liked her.I didn't get to know Donna well and through the years Evelyn was with my Dad she was at many holiday family get togethers.I loved her laugh and sense of humour she always talked to me and made me feel comfortable. One memory I have of her is when she would talk in her "Baby voice"this always annoyed my Dad.I always laughed when she told her adventures one in particular was when she went to an Island and ate lots of seafood. She enjoyed taking care of my hamster when I went away.I was always happy to see Donna and her personality was amazing! I will miss her she was loved by many.R.I.P Donna.

I have never met a more wonderful soul. Donna will forever be in my fondest memories.
I just know you are looking down on us, with the kindness and caring that you have shown us all in your short time here on earth.
I pray that where you are is more wonderful than anyone can imagine.
I so miss you my friend...

My heart broke when I heard the words. Evelyn, Debbie and the family. My heart and thoughts are with you. I always thought of Donna over the years. We talked occasionally & it was always as if we just talked the day before. Donna will always hold a special spot in my heart. I have many memories from long ago. It has been years but love you all. Thank you Diana. I remember many of the adventures you and Donna shared during your teen years. Donna often spoke of you fondly. Evelyn

On the day when
The weight deadens
On your shoulders
And you stumble,
May the clay dance
To balance you.
And when your eyes
Freeze behind
The gray window
And the ghost of loss
Gets into you,
May a flock of colours,
Indigo, red, green
And azure blue,
Come to awaken in
A meadow of delight.
When the canvas frays
In the curragh of
And a stain of ocean
Blackens beneath you,
May there come
across the waters
A path of yellow
To bring you safely
May the nourishment
of the earth be yours,
May the clarity of the light
be yours,
May the fluency of the
ocean be yours,
May the protection of
the ancestors be
And so may a slow
Wind work these
Of love around you,
An invisible cloak
To mind your life.
