Obituary

Donald Wayne Pierce
July 29, 1932- April 12, 2020

Donald Wayne Pierce, of Calgary, AB, born July 29, 1932 and passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020 peacefully at home, lovingly cared for by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Gayla at the age of 87 years after a valiant battle with cancer.

Beloved father of Don (Shirley) Pierce of Airdrie, AB, Debby (Perry) Prete of Riverview, Florida
Gordon (Karen) Pierce of Guelph, Ontario, Sharon (Mel) Gulewich of Calgary, AB and
Scott (Gayla) Pierce of Calgary, AB.

Dad was the proud grandfather of many grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Michael (Colette), Matthew (Carla), Donnie (Candace) Pierce, Jason (Jennifer) Prete, Dawn (Dave) Wong, Jared (Laurica) Prete, Andrew, Nicholas, Bobbi-jo Pierce, Terry (Amy) Gulewich, Jennifer Federle; 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Jean Louise Pierce; son, Robert Thomas Pierce; parents, Thomas and Marjorie Pierce and siblings, Buster, Shirley and Lloyd Pierce.

His family and all the people in his life knew him as a quiet, Happy Go Lucky type of man. There was not much that could get Dad worked up over. He married our mother Jean, June 17, 1950.Together they worked hard throughout their lives and raised six Wonderful children who have all had successes and triumphs that were always supported and encouraged by Dad. He worked for the CN railroad for 35 plus years. After retiring from the railroad he couldn’t be idle and worked for Southland Bus lines either driving for seniors or school children. He was well loved by all. Dad was active in many sports throughout his life including playing ball into his late 70’s, bowling and curling into his 80’s. He was an avid pool player, winning major championships, also enjoyed playing shuffleboard. Dad was an Amazing Smooth dancer, floated across the floor! He absolutely loved his dogs throughout his life, and even his grand-dog was by his side at the end. Throughout his life, Dad overcome a few life-threatening illnesses, we always told him he had 9 lives. Dad fought his hardest fight this last year with Humour, Dignity, Love and Gratefulness for his family. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to make donations, they may be made in Don’s memory to Tom Baker Cancer Centre-Alberta Cancer Foundation

There will be no Memorial Service at this time, but once the unprecedented global pandemic around the world has settled, the family will have a memorial at Don’s final resting place. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Don, please visit www.choicememorial.com.

My condolences to the family of Donald Wayne Pierce. I had the pleasure of working with Don for 12 years at Southland Transportation and must say it was a pleasure to do so. I ran in to Don a few years ago at Dollarama and we chatted for what seems like an hour...holding up the isle and quietly just moving to the side so people could go around us. We chatted about co workers, charters, and most of all how he was one of the guys who trained me to drive a standard Bus.....oh he had so much patience ...clutch shift clutch shift...I was saying it in my sleep. Rest In peace Don...I can honestly say you are one man who will never be forgotten.
