William Cleveland Mills (born July 11, 1930) passed away peacefully on November 18, 2018. He is survived by his son Keith in Calgary and daughter Nancy and grandson Skylar in Sydney, Australia. He is also survived by a sister-in-law and several nieces and their families in Manitoba.
Bill was born in St Boniface, Manitoba and married Connie in 1952. They moved to Calgary in 1956 where they raised Nancy and Keith. Bill worked in the oil business for many years, starting at Dome Petroleum. He retired early to go to university, obtaining a Masters in History from the University of Alberta. Bill coached junior girls soccer teams in the 1970s and 1980s, helped organise girls’ soccer tournaments and participated in the Calgary Minor Soccer Association. Bill was a keen traveller making a number of trips to the UK and Europe, with Italy being one of his favourite destinations, and many to Australia. He was also an avid reader and was particularly interested in archaeology and genealogy.
There will be no funeral service, as per Bill’s wishes. A Celebration of Life will be held in Manitoba at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, in memory of Bill.
