Obituary for Yvan Joseph Lariviere

Yvan Lariviere’s family is saddened to announce his passing on July 9, 2022 at 92 years young.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Frances (Roland), Gaby, and Ann (Bob); grandchildren: Chantelle (Aaron), Justin (Louise), Amy (Naomi), and Daniel (Ava); and great-grandchildren: Liam, Sonny, Evyn, and Xavier; along with numerous family members and friends. Yvan was predeceased by his loving wife, Marcella (2019) and their son, Michael (2009).

Yvan was born in the little town of Bouchette, Quebec on March 3, 1930. He married the love of his life, Marcella, on July 24, 1954, and they spent 3 weeks shy of 65 years together. They came to Calgary together to start and raise a family. Dad spent over 35 years working for the Calgary Herald.

Yvan’s kids, grandkids and friends will all remember his famous “giblotte” which was his signature dish he loved to cook up to feed us all. His “joie de vivre” was to keep busy by riding his bicycle, playing cribbage (crib) and pool, knitting slippers, going for walks, taking a chance on the lottery, but mostly, spending quality time with his family and friends.

The family wishes to extend our sincerest heartfelt thanks to the staff of Whitehorn Village Retirement Community for the friendship, kindness, and care they provided. We hope that his sense of humour, practical jokes, and willingness to have fun brightened your days at work.

At Yvan’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. The family asks that in remembrance, friends and loved ones play a game of crib; go throw a frisbee in the park; or go for a bicycle ride. He will be playing, watching, and riding right alongside of you!
