Obituary for William Edward James McMorris

William Edward James McMorris
March 13, 1948 - March 29, 2022

William (Bill, ‘Mac’) McMorris passed away peacefully on March 29th, 2022, after a short and difficult battle with cancer. Bill will be missed by his wife, Vicki; daughter, Carly (Kenneth Steinsvik); his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Finn and Liv. Bill is also survived by his sister, Marj Kronberger (Merv); nephew, Kevin Kronberger (Nicole, Dylan, Katie); his brother-in-law, Murray Keith (Denise, Nicki, Gabi, Isaiah) and his sister-in-law Mary Keith. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Edward McMorris; his brother, Brian McMorris and brother-in-law, Greg Keith. Bill was a great friend to many and took special joy in the lifelong friendships he shared with his baseball team, the ‘Crawlers’.

Bill will be remembered for his tenacity, work ethic, leadership, and love for family. From a small farming town in Saskatchewan (Balcarres), Bill learned the importance of hard work and community. His career accomplishments as an executive in the IT sector were endless, including obtaining an executive MBA from Queen’s University. During his career, Bill was highly valued and respected for his leadership, mentorship, and natural business sense. Bill’s career frequently took him across North America, but he always prioritized time with family and friends, rarely missing a Sunday night dinner. He cherished family gatherings and traditions, including his yearly reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’.

Bill finally retired in 2012. In his retirement, he spent summers at the cottage at Katepwa Lake, SK, and winters golfing in Scottsdale, AZ. After a busy career, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, ‘happy’ hours in Scottsdale, playing golf at Katepwa Golf Course, ‘Crawler’ reunions, and boat cruises on the lake. As an avid sports fan, Bill played numerous sports throughout his lifetime, and loved teaching others. In more recent years, he enjoyed cheering on the Raptors with Vicki, watching the Blue Jays, and supporting his grandson playing soccer, golfing, and skiing. Bill will fondly be remembered for his endless one-liners, including “no fruit or vegetables required” and “is the Pope Catholic?”. Bill believed he lived a great life, surrounded by friends and family, and will be forever loved and missed.

A special thanks goes to the Tom Baker Cancer Center’s Palliative Team and staff at Peter Lougheed Hospital (Calgary, AB). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Katepwa Golf Course to support Junior golf. A Celebration of Life will be held in Regina, SK at a later date.
