Obituary for William Gordon Evans

William Gordon “Gord” Evans passed away July 25, 2022 after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Gord was born September 12, 1931 in Atherton, UK.

He lived a full life with many diverse experiences.

In 1958, he moved from England to Bermuda together with his wife June, where they started a family. They eventually immigrated to Canada, living first in Toronto and later Calgary. He enjoyed a short time in Victoria (Saanichton), BC, and then eventually moved back to Calgary to be closer to family and friends.

Gord was fiercely independent and was always active and socializing. He had a true love for being with people and enjoyed social activities which led him to be an active member and volunteer of the Minus 1 Dance Club. He also loved bowling, and curling.

His love for soccer took him from playing the sport, to coaching and helping with the initiation of organized girls soccer in the 1970s in Calgary. He also spent many years of refereeing in the senior men’s soccer league.

A true sports lover, he was a long time supporter of the Calgary Stampeders and Calgary Flames. He was fond of DIY and was a semi-successful Mr. Fixit for anything from televisions to radios, toasters to hairdryers.

He was an avid dog lover having Skipper, Misty, and Ruby.

Gord was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bermuda and the Shriners Club of Calgary and was a part of the Tin Lizzy Patrol. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion (actively attending the Horton Road meat draws).

He served in the British Army, worked as a sign painter, journeyman autobody technician (Superior Paint & Autobody, Atco, Jack Carter, Greyhound) and in his retirement years worked at the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta.

He was predeceased by his loving wife June Margaret Evans, and will be missed by his family; daughter, Gillian Evans, (Ken Rumohr), son Christopher (Junko) Evans, and daughter, Lesley (Ryan) Capel and grandchildren, Fiona & Molly Rumohr and Keegan, Garrett, & Jemma Capel.

We will always remember Gord’s funny comments and quick retorts which will always put a smile on our faces.
