Obituary for Walter Louis Thorsen

With sadness we announce the passing of Walter Louis Thorsen, our loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, fiancée and friend to all whose lives he touched, on Saturday, July 9, 2022 in Calgary, Alberta, concluding his battle with cancer.

Born in Calgary to Louis and Isabelle Thorsen, Walt grew up in Bowness with his four siblings. After high school, he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he attended the Canadian Nazarene College (CNC) and took Civil Engineering at the Manitoba Institute of Technology. He met Rosalee Olsen at CNC and they were soon married in May 1970. Together they moved to Sherwood Park, Alberta to start their family. In September 1988 they moved to Calgary as Walt was transitioned to a new job with his company. For many years in Calgary, Walt worked at Continental Wire Cloth as a Maintenance Foreman and became a Millwright to build heavy machinery. He loved to serve his community and volunteered at Camp Harmattan, Southview Alliance Church, Operation Christmas Child and on Missions trips abroad. If you are reading this, it’s highly probable Walt fixed, built, moved or replaced something for you. In September Walt was planning to marry his loving fiancée, Sharon Nichol.

Walt is survived by his fiancée, Sharon Nichol; sisters, Peggy (Wes), Pat and Linda; brother, Carl; his two daughters, Kimberly Thorsen and Robin (Arthur) Bamboukian; and son, Michael (Sandi) Thorsen; by four grandchildren, Armen Bamboukian, Kassi Padgett, Kolton Thorsen and Kellan Thorsen, plus many nieces and nephews. Walt was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife, Rosalee.

Please join us in celebrating Walt’s life on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Southview Alliance Church (20200 Walden Boulevard SW) in Calgary, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, tributes may be in Walt’s memory to Operation Christmas Child.
