Obituary for Virginia Kathleen "Ginny" Kuzek (Wolkowski)

Virginia Kathleen Kuzek
November 21, 1951 – Porcupine Plain, Sk
July 1, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Virginia (Ginny) Kathleen Kuzek (nee Wolkowski) of Calgary, beloved wife of Dwight Kuzek and loving mother to Deseree, Bryson, Dallas and Shayne Kuzek on July 1, 2020.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Ginny passed peacefully at home near her garden and surrounded by family.

Ginny was born on November 21, 1951 in Porcupine Plain, Sk to John and Mary Wolkowski. She spent her early school years in Edmonton before moving back to Chelan, Sask. where she finished High School in Porcupine Plain. After attending University in Regina, Ginny married Dwight Kuzek. While raising their four children they lived in Calgary, Drayton Valley and eventually moved back to Calgary.

When her children were teenagers, Ginny returned to school. She attended SAIT, taking Print Management Technology. Her love for learning saw her complete a Masters Degree in Learning and Technology from Royal Roads University.

Family was the most important thing to Ginny. She was very proud of her children and their accomplishments, but according to her, the best thing in life was being a grandmother. Always happiest when her grandchildren were near; she showered them with love like the sprinkles she put on their ice cream.

Ginny lived life her way, experiencing as much as she could and never missing an opportunity to do something. With her soul mate Dwight, she was able to visit places she read about.

Sports was a large part of Ginny’s life. One of her favourite activities was Thursday night curling with her friends from SAIT. She also enjoyed watching the Flames, but she loved watching Tanner, Jenson and Dillon play hockey; to her they were the real superstars. With a smile and a coffee in hand, there was always time to go to the pool to watch Josie and Brooklyn and Eli swim, or to the baseball diamond or hockey rink to watch her boys play.

Ginny had many interests, most of them were spurred by her creative nature. She loved to garden, she loved books and she loved to cook. There was always room for friends and extended family at her table.

Ginny’s heart was broken by the passing of her son Bryson in April, 2020. She is survived by her loving husband Dwight; daughter Deseree Kuzek (Joel Appleton); sons Dallas Kuzek (Crystal Nichol); and Shayne Kuzek; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Kuzek. Grandchildren Dillon, Tanner, Brooklyn, Jenson, Josie, Eli and special niece Kate; brothers Mark Wolkowski (Jane), Kim Wolkowski (Carmen); sister Tammy Wheeler (Mark) and many nieces and nephews and relatives.

Donations in memory of Ginny can be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Center at www.albertacancer.ca/donate.

A celebration of Ginny’s life will be held at a future date once it is safe to gather.
