Obituary for Vernon Campbell Moore

Vernon Campbell Moore passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the age of 90.

Vernon was born at the family farm near Ryerson, Saskatchewan on September 17, 1931 to Irish immigrants John and Jane (Campbell) Moore. It was near the beginning of the dirty thirties and as Vernon told his children, “We didn’t know we were poor. All of our neighbours were too.” After leaving school, Vernon briefly tried out different possible vocations, but was quickly drawn back to the farm. Vernon farmed there with his brother Ken for 40 years, after which they both moved into retirement.

During his time volunteering at Maryfield Bible Camp, Vernon met Margaret Bute and they married during a blizzard on January 9, 1965 in Langbank, SK. He deeply loved her and their children David, Cheryl and Daniel.

Vernon was deeply committed to his faith in Jesus, and the sincere love shown for people was matchless. His children and grandchildren were prayed for daily, and he spent much of his free time helping others through organized volunteer work or just giving somebody a hand. Although farming was a life-long job that brought him great fulfillment, Vernon cared even more deeply for the hearts (and funny bones) of the hundreds of people God placed in his path. In the leisure time afforded by retirement, he developed a love of woodworking, fishing, and many other pursuits including joining the fellows for coffee at Tim Horton’s.

Vernon will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret; children, David (Michelle), Cheryl (Alan) and Dan (Kamie); grandchildren, MacKenzie, Madison, Julianna, Jackson, Jacob, Sophie, Bo. Vernon was predeceased by his parents; sisters Eileen, Edith, and Doris; brothers Wes and Ken; sisters-in-law Edith and Merle; brother-in-law Ed.

In celebration of Vernon’s Life, a service will be conducted on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Varsity Bible Church (4807 Valiant Dr. NW, Calgary). The service will be recorded, and a YouTube link made available by request.

Special thanks to the caregivers and staff at Scenic Acres for taking great care of Vernon during his time there. True to his character, he always enjoyed connecting and joking around with both staff and residents even as his health declined.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vernon’s memory to ShareWord Global, formerly Gideon’s and Kenosee Lake Bible Camp.
