Nov.1, 1959 – Aug. 26, 2020

Susie Spurgeon, beloved wife of Les Spurgeon of Beiseker, AB passed away at Calgary, AB at the age of 60 years. This lovely lady left us far too soon. After a courageous battle with cancer, and being deemed cancer – free in June, she lost her battle when it came back with a vengeance.

“The disease that keeps on giving” Susie, 2020

She had a son, Michael David Neil, (the light of her life), with David Neil, November of 1990. And was predeceased by her mother, Doris Syroid, and brother, Michael John Syroid.
In 1999, Susie met a “cowboy” who swept her away to the Prairies of Alberta, Beiseker. She gradually settled in and became an integral part of the community, holding numerous jobs over the years.

In early 2000’s, she became a Welcome Wagon Hostess and eventually the Senior Rep for the Airdrie area. Her team received numerous accolades over her many years with WW.
She was affectionately known as the “Flower Lady”, within the Village for her care of the Village flowers in recent years.

Her volunteering included the Beiseker Farmers/ Christmas Markets, Seniors, she helped resurrect the Acme Legion #76, COP Beiseker, and was always willing to help. Susie spent more than 12 years volunteering with the Beiseker Fire Department (giving back to those that helped her), holding many positions, but excelling at Medical calls. She was affectionately known as “Hall Mom” to most of the Firefighters.
Her love of crafts and trying new things and projects was endless. She loved her flowers, gardening and cooking, (always trying new recipes on Les), normally great, and cooking shows, always learning more. She was always willing to pitch in or “take the bull by the horns”, to get things done and Les wasn’t far behind.
Susie loved our cats, starting with Rusty, then Little Man (hers for 17 years), Scooter and Betty (the teenagers, always fighting), and our precious Tiny, a great traveller and helper, from ceilings to plumbing, she was in there, helping Les. They were her comfort when Les was working his 10 -14 hour days.

Susie kept telling me “ she didn’t want to die alone at home” , but I know now she had a Village in her corner. Thanks for all your love friendship, it’s amazing, and helped her thru the tough times.
You were Loved and Respected by all. You graduated from the school of “Hard Knocks”, and excelled. You earned you WINGS, now SOAR!
Memorial Donations can be made to:
The Canadian Cancer Society , the Tom Baker Centre or Wellspring Calgary , in lieu of flowers.
