We are extremely sad to announce the passing of Steven Andrew Raymond St. Jean. He was born on June 8, 1983 in Oshawa, ON at 10:06 am, and passed away on Friday, July 3, 2020 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB at 3:43 pm at the age of 37.
Steve was the loving son of Shariel Meisenheimer and Harry Berichon St. Jean. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Chantal Haydon; brother-in-law, Edison Haydon; his brother, Trevor St. Jean; and sister-in-law, Jessica St. Jean, all of North Bay, ON.
Steve will also be missed by all of the children who call him their Uncle, especially Boo Boo who called him Poppa. Boo Boo and his sisters, Chealsea and Phoenix of Calgary (the grandchildren of Steve’s good friend, Kim Weshleshyn) all loved Steve dearly and he was Poppa to them.
Steve is the grandson of Mary-Jean St. Jean (of Sturgeon Falls, ON); uncle to Logan, Lucas and Levi (of Barrie, ON); uncle to Hailey, Paisley and Riley (of Corbeil, ON); nephew of Debbie Lebel; cousins of Jamie and Mandy Lebel (of Hamilton, ON); nephew of Suzanne Smith and Stephen Walter Smith (of Sturgeon Falls, ON); close cousin of Melissa Aubrey (of Kipawa, QC) and Mark Andrew Aubrey (of Warren, ON); cousin of Jason and Jerrod Ducharm (of North Bay, ON) and nephew of Brenda Ducharm (of North Bay, ON); close friend of Rob MacMillan (Scotty’s dad) and Pam; very best friend, RJ Dumond (Kyle) who worked with Steve as well. Kyle and Steve would take many road trips to be out in nature and they balanced one another. Not to mention many school, high school and college friends who will miss him like Billi-Joe Daniher (of North Bay, ON); Melissa Ervin (of North Bay, ON) and too many more to mention.
Steve is predeceased by the first man he was truly in love with and whom he worked with, Scotty MacMillan; grandparents, Kathleen and Raymond Meisenheimer (Steven was their first born grandson); grandparents, Roudolf and Jacqueline Foisy; Claude and Lois St. Jean; great grandma, Aldea Berichon; great aunt, Anita Knight (who treated him like a grandson); his cousin, Mikey Spotton (of Chatham, ON); cousin, Randy Spotton (of Chatham, ON)and his special aunt, Terry (of Sudbury, ON).
Steve graduated from Grade 12 from the Chippewa Secondary School. He also worked at Sobeys and American Eagle Outfitters while in Grade 12 in North Bay, ON. He did some podcasting on Cable TV in North Bay, ON. He then went on to Calgary and took a producing and production course. He was always interested in acting and producing. He was in plays in Chippewa as well as Centennial School in North Bay. He also tried out for Canadian Idol. Steve ran his own karaoke business for a few years in Calgary, AB called Stevie Okie Karaoke.
Steve started out cleaning houses, and moved up to cleaning condos, vacuuming, windows, elevators, and gyms, etc. He was very particular and loved to have the buildings spic and span. He would go above and beyond to do extra work. He would hose down the garbage rooms and scrub the cement floors.
Steve’s mom Shariel helped him once with his cleaning and told him “wow, it smells in here” and he’d say, “suck it up mom and let’s get ‘er done.” How they would laugh about that!!
Steve ended up with seven contracts for cleaning buildings and the cleaning of a hotel in Calgary such as the Garrison building, the Karen King & Associates building, Mission building, as well as five others. He also had contracts for window cleaning at two condo buildings, which he would do with Rob MacMillan. Rob would also clean windows with Steve periodically. Steve’s employee and best friend of 17 years, Richell also worked with Steve for 3 days a week. She was a true, close friend to him. Your dad also loved helping clean with you and laughed when he missed picking something off the floor and you asked him to do it. You laughed over that. Harry also loved Steve hanging out in the Auto Body shops that he had in North Bay, ON.
Steven put his heart and sweat into his cleaning business. He loved having his own cleaning business and at first it was called Get A Life Cleaner and then he went on to change it to Glass Castle Cleaning Services.
Steve’s hobbies included kayaking, swimming, jogging, and going to the mountains in Invermere, BC, Canmore, and Banff. He loved to visit Vancouver, BC to see his friends there and to walk the ocean walls. He loved the ocean and Mother Earth. He loved camping and just being in nature. He enjoyed his trips to Mexico, and he had many friends there.
When Steve was in a mood at work, mom would say to him on the telephone, “see the pink penguin” and this would make Steve laugh. He even said the same thing to mom a few times. Everyone that Steve met, he touched in one way or another – with spoken words of positivity, with his huge giving heart, with a smile, with words of kindness and wisdom. He was also generous monetarily, helping out a person who lived across the hall from him once and giving him 50.00 so he could go get food.
Steve always said that sharing was caring. He would bring homeless people a coffee or a sandwich. So many more lovely stories that mom could share but she would have to write an entire book!! Steve loved all walks of life. People would tell his mom, Shariel that she had a great son, and he loved her very much. Shariel says, “I was blessed to have Steven as my son. I will miss my trips to Calgary twice a year to visit with him, but he will always be in my heart and near me and everyone you ever loved.” A thank you to Pam and Kyle who have helped paint Steve’s new place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s memory to Multiple Sclerosis Society, Calgary.
There will be a private visitation held at Choice Memorial, Calgary, AB.
