Obituary for Slavka (Slavica) Polancec (Trajanoska)
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Slavica (Slavka) Polancec announce her passing on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the age of 87 years.
Slavica was born in North Macedonia (part of Yugoslavia at the time) to her parents, Dimitria and Menka Trajanoski. Moving to Zagreb, Croatia at a young age, she grew to also love the Croatian people and culture very much. She moved with her Croatian husband, Milan (Mike) Polancec, to Calgary, Alberta in the late 1960s.
Slavica loved her new home of Calgary immensely and began working only a few days after arriving. In fact, she always kept herself busy whether it was working, meeting up with friends and family, gardening, needlepoint, knitting. She was a gregarious and fun-loving person who loved singing, Macedonian dancing, and telling stories whenever she got the chance!
A couple places of note where Slavka worked was her long-term employment at GEO Space here in Calgary where she did electronics work on Canadian military helicopters. Later, she worked at the Croatian Canadian Cultural Centre where she helped with bingo and events.
In the 1980s, Slavica became one of the original members of the "Calgary Croatian Retirement Recreational Sports Society" (CCRRSS). Slavica visited the CCRRSS, or as it was known informally "The Land", every chance she got to camp, barbecue, tell stories, chop wood, and enjoy group events such as pig roasts, celebrations, and land workdays.
Slavica will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Peggy and Drage; her grandchildren, Snezana and Ivana; nieces and nephews, Cvetanka, Mara, Duna, Renata, and Stella; great nephews/great nieces, Drago, Donny, and Petra, and other extended family members. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Milan; nephew, Vlado; her brothers and sisters, Sande, Vence, Cveta, Ilinka and other extended family members.

A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Croatian Catholic Church (14675 Deer Ridge Drive SE, Calgary, AB). Graveside Service will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery (3157 Erlton Street SW, Calgary, AB). Immediately following the Graveside Service, a Reception will take place back at the Croatian Catholic Church (14675 Deer Ridge Drive SE, Calgary, AB).
