Obituary for Shirley Anne Gail Hill (Inkster)
SHIRLEY ANNE GAIL HILL (nee Inkster) AKA (“Squirrel”)
April 5, 1952 – March 27, 2022
Shirley Hill passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022, following a courageous battle with Cancer.
Shirley was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Terry, in November 2019 and her father, Les Inkster, in October 2017. Shirley is survived by her mother, Edna Inkster; four sons, Richard Hill (Janeen), Michael Hill (Tatianna), Patrick Hill (Sylvia), and JT Hill (Christine); brother, Jim Inkster (Wendy Wheeler); nine grandchildren; one niece; a great niece; and one nephew.
Shirley had three main passions: Teaching, Faith, and most important, Family. Shirley taught a total of 48 years, most with Calgary Board of Education. She valued education and had completed her B. Ed and Master’s Degree. As a teacher, counsellor and AP, she was gifted at not only working with students, but also their families and supported lifelong learning and development. She worked with a diverse population of students and was successful in helping them meet their goals. Shirley sustained incredible faith, courage, and strength throughout her life. Shirley so loved her family and the fellowship through the years, celebrating all holidays and birthdays.
Shirley enjoyed cooking family dinners, gardening-flowers and herbs, pickling-beets, pickles and making jam. Her home was always decorated with seasonal décor including a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Shirley was a member of the Stampede Queens’ Alumni and was a Stampede Princess in 1971. She has been a volunteer for the Stampede in excess of 50 years. She was an avid Calgary Stampeder fan, rarely missing a game.
