Obituary for Sheila Marie Robicheau (Gage)

Robicheau, Sheila Marie

Mom was born in Halifax, NS on May 2, 1936. She was the eldest daughter of six children of James and Marion Gage. She attended school until Grade 9 which at that point, found it necessary to quit school and go to work. Her father (often referred to as “Daddy”) always struggled with health issues so mom had to start working in order to help support the family. She grew up in very modest times and all the family had to contribute. While mom was working in Halifax, she met and dated Dad. Shortly after that Mom and Dad were married on September 15, 1953 and started a family of their own.

Mom attended Beauty School and received her certificate for hairdressing in June of 1980.
She considered this a great accomplishment because she was never able to complete her high school education.

Mom always had a strong faith and found a church where she could grow and learn. She attended Southside Victory Church which helped her to grow stronger in her faith. Mom was always involved in many of the events at her church. She also volunteered to help with the door to door enumerations, and worked the elections in the schools.

She started painting with the friends from her prayer group and some of her favorite paintings would be pictures of mountains and country scenes which most always involved cabins and running streams.
She was also an avid reader, her bible was her favorite book but she also enjoyed reading biographies and her Christian magazines which she subscribed to regularly.

Our mom was always a strong swimmer and loved swimming in the lakes and waters of Nova Scotia. So, it made sense that she found a swimming class to attend at a local pool in her neighborhood. She was involved with Seniors Fitness which was offered to the seniors in her building as well. She often told me how much all their stretching exercises were helping her to feel better.

The most special times of travel were trips to Palm Springs, CA. They visited several times with family and enjoyed the California sunshine and laid back atmosphere, which included lots of outdoor pools, shopping in open markets, and the many varied restaurants. The most memorable of their travels was when we took them to Maui, Hawaii for their milestone 60th Wedding Anniversary. With their reaction to this trip, they thought this was as close to heaven as you could get. Mom often commented to her children when they returned how amazing and special Hawaii was. From the Lanai balcony at the condo where we stayed, they enjoyed many sunrises and sunsets, from the soft gentle breezes to the fragrant smell of the Plumeria in the air, and mom was mesmerized by it all. They also enjoyed a Hawaiian luau which introduced them to the Hawaiian culture and their music, which she loved. She never thought she would ever see Hawaii so this was a dream come true.

Mom was a strong, kind, caring, and gentle soul who will be forever missed. She was the glue that held our family together and a pillar of strength to each of us. We loved her with all our hearts. Mom we will always keep You, Dad, and Scotty close until we see you all again.

Mom will be missed and lovingly remembered by all of her children, Debra (Tom) Wenham, Dawn Wessel, Wayne (Karen) Robicheau, Tammy (Marco) Federico and Sandra (Sam) Robichaud; grandchildren, Justin & Scott Wenham; Tyler, Karissa, Leighton, Mathew & Ethan Wessel; Ryan, Renny (Amanda & Kayleigh) & Tory Federico; Katie, Katherine & Benjamin Robicheau; Madison & Zac Wenham. She was predeceased by her husband, Ede Robicheau; nephew, Scott Wenham; parents, James Reginald & Marion Gage; and her sister, Jackie Thibodeau.
