Obituary

Sandra Robertson
October 26th, 1977 - May 20th, 2019

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Sandra Robertson on Monday, May 20th, 2019 at the age of 41.

Sandra was born in Brooks, Alberta three months early on October 26, 1977 to her parents Brian and Cheryl Robertson. She was so small that her grandfather called her ‘tiny mite’. Later in December, she was able to come home for Christmas. Still very small, Sandra fit into a stocking and her sister, Heather, thought that Sandra was her dolly.

She grew up and met her friends Fiona Boyd Barnett and Jennifer Hill (now Turner) in school. Fiona and Sandra stayed close as sisters while Sandra and Jennifer’s families became inseparable. Jen’s parents, Maurice and Sylvia, were like second parents to Sandra and they helped her grow in her faith.

Through her faith she met many brothers and sisters in Jesus, some of which were as close as family. She went on several mission trips to build houses and was always willing to discuss her faith. No matter how simple or complex the theology, Sandra would talk about it all and always say that she couldn’t wait to have all of her questions answered.

Sandra loved to bake and cook. Whether there was a party or not, she would lovingly share something she made. She also loved sci-fi, superheroes and always talked about her trip to Italy.

Over the last decade Sandra worked for a few funeral homes and touched the lives of many co-workers. Most people remember her dedication to the families and her ‘small fist shake’ when she became annoyed with something. Sandra was a valued administrator at Choice Memorial and will be missed by her entire Choice Family.

Sandra will be forever loved and remembered by her father Brian Robertson; sisters Kerry (Doug) Hill and Heather Robertson; cherished nieces Grace and Elizabeth Hill; dear friends Maurice and Sylvia Hill; aunts, uncles, many other extended family members and her beloved dog Gypsy, who would go to work with her every day. Sandra was predeceased by her mother Cheryl Robertson; grandparents Jack and Jeanne Robertson and Harold and Loretta Greenwood.

Her final words to everyone are:
"I know where I have gone, but do you know where you are going?".
Repent and trust in the Saviour.

Sandra will be laid to rest in Okotoks Cemetery. A Celebration of her life will be held at Okotoks Evangelical Free Church (28 Westland Road, Okotoks, AB) on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandra's memory to either:

I feel privileged to have called Sandra my friend. My husband and I led a college and career group and Sandra was one of our members. She had a great desire to grow in the Lord and I so respected her faith and love for Christ.
I appreciated her willingness to help me out whenever it was needed. Sandra, you will be greatly missed. I wish I could be with your family and friends to celebrate your life.

We all loved and cherished Sandra so deeply, she touched many of ya, even those who had only met her a moment. Her undying faith and love, mischievous and wit was just few of the things that made her a joy to always be around. We will miss her so deeply at Bible study and sleepovers. We love you and look forward to seeing you by Jesus’ side being comforted by the ultimate Comforter.

Sandra was a part of the Choice Memorial team for a year. From the day that I met her, I knew that she would be punctual, dependable, reliable and dedicated. Sandra showed up every day with a positive attitude and was a hard worker. She would never leave the office with a task unfinished. Sandra was the first voice that many of our families heard when they called in for our services. She was always very gentle and kind and reassuring, and made families feel confident that their loved ones would be taken care of. Sandra also brought sweet Gypsy to work every day, and was a nice distraction for all of the staff to get puppy snuggles. We are privileged to have met Sandra, to have had her as a colleague, and to have had her as a friend. Sandra you will be dearly missed by all of us at Choice Memorial. May you rest in peace.

I met Sandra and her family when I was 5 years old, so she was really little, probably around 2. Her Dad Brian was my SPEC friend (similar to big brothers, and sisters) so I accepted into the family, and spent many entire weekends there. One of my favorite memories of Sandra was when we all went camping. All us girls were in the same cabin, so we told jokes we had made up. Sandra was the youngest, not even school aged, and her jokes were so silly and didn't make sense, but we laughed and laughed because of this. Another favorite memory is one night I slept over, and i'm not sure why but the four of us were sleeping in the same room. Brian and Cheryl had fallen asleep, and we stayed up so late going through a book of rhymes and songs they had. We sang and laughed until we woke Brian up, and had to be fairly quite after that. It was one of those nights where we could all be kids, and feel free of prying adult eyes. It's one of the best nights I can remember. I haven't seen Sandra since she was a teenager, but my mom would always ask me if Sandra was still cute, and the answer would always be yes. My thoughts are with Brian, Kerry, and Heather. I'm thinking of you.
