Obituary for Samantha Jayne Wylie (Wilkinson)

Samantha “Sam” Jayne Wylie
December 16, 1938 – August 19, 2022

On Friday, August 19, 2022, a mother of two loving children, a loving spouse, a best friend and strong community supporter was killed on Highway 1A (near Morley, AB) when an SUV travelling westbound crossed the centre line and collided with her motorcycle, killing her, at the young age of 53.

Sam was a loving mother, and leaves behind, son, Eric (30) and daughter, Haley (32). Haley and her spouse, Tyler are expecting their first child together, which would have been Sam’s first grandchild. She also leaves behind her husband, Elmo Nanemahoo. Sam and Elmo had just bought their dream home, an acreage near Caroline, AB where they were to begin the next phase of their lives together with their puppy, Ginnie.

In the last ten years, Sam was on a journey of personal and spiritual growth. Through her exploration she was led towards healing modalities, achieving the exceptional accomplishment of Level Three QHHT Practitioner and certified Clinical Hypnotherapist.

She was passionate and touched many hearts and souls to find peace, achieve heath, and receive answers from their higher selves, ultimately leaving them empowered and in alignment with who they truly are and what they came here to do.

Sam was also a 32-year Military (Army) Veteran, retiring as a Master Warrant Officer. She served from January 3, 1987 – May 1, 2019. She joined the Military when women were not well received. She worked tirelessly in a man’s world to rise to Master Warrant Officer. She was a trailblazer and paved the way for many women in the Military, fighting her whole way to the top. She dedicated her life to serving Canadians.

Sam participated in multiple key tours with the Canadian Armed Forces in such places as Afghanistan, Gulf War, Kuwait, Iraq, Cyprus, Egypt, Turkey and Israel. The highlights of her career included deploying as the Task Force Superintendent Clerk to Afghanistan and then being selected as the Canadian Expeditionary Force Command and Canadian Joint Operations Command Superintendent Clerk, where she had the opportunity to travel to all posts where troops were deployed. During her years of Service, Sam was awarded the Gulf and Kuwait Medal, while serving in the theatre of operations during actual hostilities (January 16, 1991 – March 3, 1991); (UNDOF) United Nations Disengagement Observation Force Medial (Syria and Israel); (GCS-SWA) General Campaign Star – South West Asia (Afghanistan); (CPSM) Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal; (CDII) Canadian Decoration Second Clasp Medal; and Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Sam LOVED riding her motorcycle. She was an advanced and seasoned motorcyclist with approximately 180,000 km under her belt, visiting all of the iconic biker destinations across North America before turning 50. Sam was also an active member in the HOG (Harley Owners Group) Chapters in Ottawa and Edmonton.

Sam had an incredible drive to succeed in everything she did. She had an overwhelming desire to achieve and be the best she could be in the endeavors she tackled. She demonstrated this in all aspects of her life and was truly a lover of adventure. She was spiritual, passionate and touched many hearts and souls everywhere she went.

She will be so greatly missed.

To honour Sam, a Celebration of her amazing Life will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022. It will be an outdoor gathering at 209 Eagle Ridge Avenue, approx. 5 kms West of Caroline, AB. Gates open at 2:00 pm, dinner at 4:30 pm with a Celebration to follow.
