Obituary for Russell Howard L'Hirondelle

Russell Howard L'Hirondelle
December 27, 1934 to March 20, 2021

It with great sadness that we are mourning the loss of Russell Howard L'Hirondelle at the age 86 he passed peacefully at his home in Calgary where he still enjoyed an independent life. He was a son, a brother, a father, an uncle, a husband, and a grandfather.

Russell was born in Wimbourne, AB, he was the youngest of 6 children to Molly and Evariste L’Hirondelle. Russell grew up in Ponoka, AB and in his early 20's made the decision to move his family to Calgary, AB where he worked in Oil and Gas but being away from his family for long stints at a time he decided he would find something local. He found employment as a Glazer (Window and Auto Glass installer) an industry that he worked in for over 30+ years.

He spent many years inside hockey arena's cheering on his sons while sipping on coffee's that sometimes were a little stronger than coffee...

He was a very social person, and an active member of the Moose Lodge and Legion where he volunteered for many years and events. Russell had a love for chuckwagon racing and followed the circuit for many years, meeting top racers, getting autographs and always sitting at his favorite seat, the finish line.

Russell, will be remembered by his sons Howard (Wendy), Darcy (Linda) L’Hirondelle and daughter Bonnie St. Dennis. Daughter in-law Lynn L’Hirondelle; his grand children Jennifer, Derek (Lucy) Kassandra (Dalen), Alida (Neal), Kristopher, Katlyn (Kelby), Jessica (Rory) and Courtney (David); his great-grandchildren Thayne, Grace, Oscar, Jaydee, Grady, Sophia, Kayden, Kohen and Kyler. As well as close friends Kim L’Hirondelle, Pat Ivarson and many others.
Russell had another family of friends in the community he lived, who are also mourning his loss but not his playful joking and bantering.

Russell is survived by his sister Ethel Schimpf of Ponoka, AB. He was predeceased by his father Evariste (Earnest), mother Molly and 4 siblings (Isabel, Patrick, Jean, Victor), his first wife Agnes and his second wife Joan, along with two son's, Baby James and Michael James L'Hirondelle.

Well Dad we are not saying goodbye we are saying see you later, you have crossed your finish line and when we arrive, we will meet you at the winner’s circle to celebrate our lives!
