Obituary for Ruby Ruth Johnson

Ruby Ruth Johnson
August 20, 1939 – May 6, 2023

Ruby passed into her heavenly home to be with the Lord she loved and served on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at age 83. Ruby lived a full and satisfying life and was blessed with the gift of building community wherever life took her. She found much pleasure in helping others and sharing her love of God with them. She was a teacher for 32 years spending the last 27 years of her teaching career at Captain John Palliser Elementary School. Her talent as a teacher and her love for her students impacted hundreds of lives. Ruby shared her gift of caring for others as a volunteer and mentor at Foothills Alliance Church, in Pioneer Girls, on the School Board of Foothills Alliance Pre-School and Kindergarten, and as the Director of the Pioneer Girls Camp Cherith at Sundre, Alberta. In later years, though her circle of friends that she was able to interact with became gradually smaller, she continued to reach out and share her love and support through technology and prayer.

Ruby was predeceased by her parents, Ruth Dorothy and Harry William Johnson, her sister, Amber Harriet, and her brother, Kenneth Fred, as well as by Vera Crouch, a longtime missionary friend of the family. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her nephew, Tory Johnson (Julie Clark) and his son, Connor, her niece, Karen (Mark) Hemrich, and her adopted family, Sham, Todd, Braden, Kylee and Tanner Warnick. Her family and many friends, who valued her friendship and benefited from her prayers over the years, will mourn her passing, especially her Three Hills cousins and her lifelong friend, Jean Dawson.

At Ruby’s request, an informal gathering of family and friends to give her loved ones an opportunity to share their memories will be held in Three Hills, Alberta. We invite her family and friends to a drop-in picnic in the park on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the gazebo in Anderson Park (805 Main Street, Three Hills). A short program will be held at 2:30 p.m.

We ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruby’s memory to The Mustard Seed, Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre, or Samaritan’s Purse, charities that Ruby supported on an annual basis.
