Obituary for Roy David Kruse

Roy “Roysie” David Kruse
March 25, 1956 - May 9, 2023

Roy Kruse, passed away on Tuesday, May 9 six weeks past his 67th birthday after a sudden short illness. He was surrounded by his four children and other close family members. Roy will be forever missed by his children, Carrie Benoit (Dennis), Richard Kruse (Carolina), Kevin Kruse (Sydney), and Amber Kruse (Dave); his seven grandchildren, Alisha, Nathan, Nevaeh, Cavan, Leo, Zachary and Penny as well as Holly Norris and Marie Langford; the two mothers he shared his children with who both still held a piece of his heart. He is predeceased by his parents, Ray Kruse and Elizabeth Kruse and his brother, Ed Kruse, as well as too many friends for one person to lose.

Roy was born the second youngest in a family of nine kids, in Calgary Alberta where he spent most of his life. He did venture out, living for a time in Chilliwack, BC in the 1970’s and in Peachland, BC in the 1980’s.

He was a man of many talents and careers throughout his life including, taxi driver, licensed painter, towing owner/operator, home insulator but his true calling was construction. Roy spent his life mastering the art of construction, so much so that in the 1990’s he was asked to work on the rebuild of homes in Japan which was an incredible experience for him and one that he carried with him for the rest of his days.

Roy had a great love for motorcycling, particularly on a Harley Davidson, but his true passion was his family. He was a little brother to seven (Joetta, Betty, Johnny, Jerry, Eddie, Linda, Brian) and a big brother to one (Dennis) and he was a most beloved uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews, and he cherished every single one. But his family goes beyond the bloodline, it’s all the people who have touched his life in so many ways throughout his journey. His heart never ran out of love to give, and he was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand to lift you up or give you that straight hard advice to get yourself back up again.

There will always be a void in the lives of the people he touched, and he will be missed more than he could have ever thought possible.

A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Forest Heights Community Hall (4909 Forego Avenue SE, Calgary). All who knew Roy are welcome to join and share their memories of him with us.

A special thank you to the ICU unit at the Rockyview Hospital where the most amazing staff took care of Roy and his family during the most difficult time imaginable.
