Obituary for Rory Boyd Wilson

WILSON, Rory Boyd
June 8, 1962–May 8, 2023

Rory Boyd Wilson passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, AB at age 60 following a 3-1/2 year battle with ALS. He was born in Pincher Creek, Alberta and grew up in Casper, Wyoming, where his father worked in the oil and gas industry.

When he was about 21 years old, Rory returned to Canada. He worked at various car dealerships in Calgary, including Shaw GMC (for nearly 12 years) and Lone Star Mercedes Benz (for about 22 years). Rory was a dedicated employee and a valued colleague.

His great love was Kananaskis Country, where the early morning road along Highway 40, Highway 66, and Highway 546 belonged to Rory, his motorcycle, and the nature and wildlife that he adored. Rory felt a passionate pride in his ancestry. He was a great-great grandson of Samuel Livingston and Jane Howse, pioneer farmers whose house is preserved at Heritage Park Historical Village where Rory once worked for a short time.

Rory was a man of wisdom, strength, courage, bravery, honesty, and belief. These characteristics endured through his final illness, which he fought with dignity and grace.

Rory is survived by sisters, Rhonda Boswell and Roxanne Byrd of Wyoming and Roberta Oxford of Pennsylvania; niece, Jessica; and grand-nieces Aurora and Piper of Didsbury, Alberta. He was predeceased by his father, Ronald Stanley Wilson; his mother, Mae Isabelle Wilson (née Ferris); and his brother.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rory’s memory to ALS Society of Alberta.
A Celebration of Rory’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 3:00 pm at the Southern Alberta Pioneers Memorial Building (3625 – 4 Street SW, Calgary, AB T2S 1Y3).
