Obituary for Romualdo Milagres Vaz

Romualdo was born and raised in Mumbai, India, where he studied to become a marine diesel mechanic. He enjoyed playing sports, particularly soccer, and loved fishing. As a young adult, he worked on ships in the Middle East. While visiting his family in Goa, he met the love of his life, Vera, and they married shortly thereafter, eventually settling down in Kuwait. They joyously welcomed their son, Patrick, and daughter, Melinda, making their family complete. In 1998, Romualdo and his family made the decision to immigrate to Canada. He was devout Catholic, actively volunteering his time to assist in the mass service at the spiritual chapel in the Peter Lougheed Hospital. He was also a long-time parishioner of St. Thomas More Church, attending mass every Sunday. He was always fond of Psalm 23 from the book of John: "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want."

In 2018, Romualdo was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and bravely fought against this incurable disease. He did not let this diagnosis impact his daily activities but continued to enjoy spending time with his family, enjoying picnics, fishing the river, and going for walks.

While we are heartbroken by his loss, we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace. He will always be remembered and loved by his wife, children and extended family.

The Vaz family would like to extend their gratitude to the Cardiac Heart Function Clinic at the Peter Lougheed Hospital and Dr. Jonathan Howlett for the care and compassion they showed Romualdo during his battle with congestive heart failure.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday April 21, 2023 at 5:00 pm at St. Thomas More Church (15 Templebow Rd NE, Calgary, AB, T1Y 6J3). To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Romualdo, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
