Obituary for Robert (Ted) Edward Smith

Robert (Ted) Edward Smith
November 2, 1954 - August 22, 2020

Robert (Ted) Smith of Calgary passed away in hospice on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the age of 65.

He was a loving father to his son, Dylan Smith and grand-daughter, Madison and to his daughter, Tanis Smith all from Edmonton, Alberta.
He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his mother, Emma Birch of Calgary, Alberta; siblings, Gail Vigfusson, (Megan (Scott), Audrey (twin) and Rick Baranowski, (Brad), Jim and Barb Smith, (David (Jesslynn Weir), (Mark (Bailey Marko), Carrie Smith, and Blair Birch as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and dearest friends. He was predeceased by his father, Edward William (Ted) Smith and by his step-father, Leith (Bud) Birch.

Robert was born and raised in Taber, Alberta, later moving to Edmonton and finally residing in Calgary. While Robert had various careers during his lifetime, he was exceptional working with wood and creating unique staining techniques. He received awards from NAIT for achieving highest marks and for his exceptional workmanship in this field for the three years of his program. He was a voracious reader, living thousands of lives through his books. There wasn’t a crossword puzzle that he couldn’t finish. He was exceptional at retaining everything, a mind of the gifted. From a young age he had a keen attention to detail in all his sketches and drawings. He excelled at curling but was very passionate about playing and watching golf. Golf was his first and last love. While he was unable to play golf due to injury, we know it won’t be long before he is once again on the links golfing with his father.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The family would like to pay special respect to the staff at SkyPointe for their exceptional care and attention provided to Robert during his stay.

At Robert’s request no Funeral Services will be held. Cremation has taken place. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Robert, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
