Obituary for Robert Earl Hunter

Hunter, Robert Earl
July 23, 1940 – April 19, 2021

Robert Earl Hunter, beloved husband of Mary Hunter (nee Robblee) of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully on Monday, April 19, 2021 at the age of 80 at the Chinook Hospice Care Centre.

Earl was born in Indian River, PEI and after finishing school, he went to Moncton, NB and worked at Eaton’s. He applied to the RCMP, passed his exams and had his medical done and then found out he needed glasses so they failed him.

He then met his future wife, Mary. In 1958, Earl and a friend headed west to Calgary, AB. They arrived in Calgary during Stampede week by bus. Mary arrived in September and they were married on September 5, 1959 at First Baptist Church where they began their life together.

Earl worked at Acklands for a short time and then at Chesters Tool for many years. When Chesters Tool sold, Earl started his own company, Hunter Tool Co. Ltd which ran for over 25 years.

Earl was a kind, quiet, patient, hardworking man. He loved his work and family. He coached his boys in hockey, drove and attended soccer and ball games. Earl was a great dad and grandfather (Papa); he loved camping with family and friends; trips to Jasper, Hawaii, Vancouver Island, and PEI to see family, and driving through the mountains of Alberta listening to country music.

Earl is survived by his loving wife, Mary of 61 years; sons, Robert and Mark; grandchildren, Kylee and Isaac; sister, Pauline and many other family relatives in PEI and New Brunswick. He was predeceased by his parents, Eustace and Jean Hunter; brothers, James and Carl.

Earl was very special man
You can never be replaced
Your memory in our daily lives
Will never be forgotten
You taught us many things in life
That we would have to do
But you never taught us how to cope
With the hurt of losing you
So put your arms around him, Lord
And give him special care
Make up for all that he suffered
And all that was unfair

The family wish to thank all of the staff who took such good care of Earl and made him smile at Chinook Hospice, Mary Griffith (case manager) and all the other care staff who helped with Earl’s daily care.

No service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Earl’s memory to the Red Cross or to a charity of one’s choice. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Earl, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
