Obituary for Rita Jean Austin

RITA: smiling, radiant, joyful, inquisitive, eloquent, lover of felines, determined, ever grateful, gracious, friend and above all beloved mother of Emily.

Despite the struggles life presented, Rita always found a way to go forward with positivity and with a little help from her Guardian Angel. She enjoyed life to the fullest. She bettered herself and in turn was able to provide a better life for Emily, by studying business courses at the university, even after achieving a Bachelor of Education degree, and thereby advancing to leadership positions with both the City of Calgary and Enmax.

To add colour to her life she attended live theatre, enjoyed holidays, especially to Kelowna, gathered with her long-time dinner group to share news and exchange ideas, shopped with soul mates on the endless hunt for bling, was on a bowling league, discussed current literature with new friends over delectable culinary delights, lost herself in a novel or was delightfully entertained by a television program. Throughout her life she collected beautiful jewelry, classy antiques but most importantly a large circle of wonderful friends who will miss her dearly.

Our shining light has moved on to a new dimension, a new home to carry on spreading her sparkle among the angels.
She will be eternally missed by her daughter Emily of Red Deer, her sister Marian (Patt) of Calgary, her brother Jeff (Sandra) of Kelowna and her nieces and nephews: Lori Lang, Sean Lang, Karalynn Lang, Josceyln Aubry, Meghan Martin, and Liam Martin, all who were very dear to her. The loss will also be tremendously felt by her cousins, the many who had the privilege of her friendship or by those who worked with her over the years.

A celebration of Rita’s life with a Mass and tributes will be held on Tuesday, June 28th at 1:00 PM at St. Bernadette Catholic Church (7103-20A Street SE, Calgary) with Rev. Wayne Poile officiating.

Don’t forget to wear your bling!
