Obituary for Rhodelle Pells

PELLS, Rhodelle Alvin (Rod)
May 24, 1929 – July 7, 2020

Rod was born in Moose Jaw, SK and raised in Regina where he attended Davin School and Central Collegiate. He excelled in sports and set a provincial high school record for shot put in 1948. He briefly attended UBC where he played football and met his wife, Marilyn Wynn.

Rod was classically trained in voice and his bass baritone became well known. He sang with the Wa Wa Shrine Chanters and was a popular soloist at weddings and public functions. From 1966 to 1970, Rod opened every Rider game at Taylor Field with a booming rendition of Oh Canada. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis before being transferred to Calgary in 1971 by United Investment Services.

In Calgary, Rod also sold real estate. He and his loving companion, Gladys Sorochan, enjoyed traveling and dancing during retirement.

He is survived by Gladys, Marilyn and five children, Cindy (Mark), Bradley (Sue), Rick (Julianne), Greg (Ruth) and Cara-Lynn along with 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

At Rod's request there will be no service. Many thanks to the kind and caring staff on Units 73 and 57 at Rockyview Hospital, Calgary, AB. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Rod, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
