Obituary

Low, Randy Kay

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Randy Kay Low of Calgary on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. He will be missed by his wife Barbara, daughter Colleen, son Cameron, and granddaughter Sierra; brothers Bill (Jackie), Eugene (Paulette), and Joseph; sister Melody (Joe) Benoit; as well as stepbrothers and stepsisters. He was well loved and respected by his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Naida Schmalz, stepfather Joe Schmalz, father Dean Low, stepmother Ginnie Low, and brothers Kevin, Gary, and Trent.

Randy was born in Cardston on July 11, 1946 and he called several places home until his Mom and Dad settled in Lethbridge in 1951. He was raised in Lethbridge and was a 11th St. boy. Growing up, he loved playing football and basketball and watching hockey. He was a life-long Boston Bruins fan and he reminisced the good ol’ days of hockey with #4 Bobby Orr. He attended Central School, Fleetwood, Hamilton Jr. High, L.C.I., and Lethbridge Community College until he left to work at PCL construction for over 40 years as an accountant. He retired in Calgary in 2011 and enjoyed spending his retirement connecting with family and a lifetime of friends.

Randy had a great love for music from many genres, but he especially loved The Beatles, and had a large collection of records, CDs, and memorabilia to prove it. Randy also loved fishing and spent many weekends with his brother-in-law Joe on the boat, along with many other loved ones over the decades. Some of his favorite fishing spots were Upper Kananaskis Lake, Beauvais Lake, and the Old Man Reservoir.

He was a loyal, supportive, and loving person to many, and he devoted his life to his wife, kids, and granddaughter. One of Randy’s greatest joys was catching up with his extended network of family and friends, often in Lethbridge.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations, in Randy’s name, to your favorite charity. There will be a private family function at a later date. To view and share photos, condolences and stories of Randy, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
