Pieternella (Nel) Anthonia Baans
March 23, 1940 – January 19, 2020
Nel peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the age of 79 years surrounded by her family that loved her. Nel will be sadly missed by her loving husband Lou Baans of almost 58 years, and their children Roeland Baans (Kristine) of Fort McMurray and Gitte White (Gary) of Millarville. She is also survived by her two grandchildren Shannon White and Jessie White, whom she adored and were the light of her life, her brother Wim Dierijck (Thea), and nephew Willem of Holland.
Born in Rotterdam, Holland, Nel became a coupeuse (tailor) and then immigrated and moved with her family to Canada in 1971. You could always find her busy doing some of her favorite hobbies such as embroidery, crochet, knitting, crafts, and making clothes for the children. Nel loved to go camping, and spent many days during the summer camping at her favorite place, Mclean Creek. She was a member for many years of the Dutch Canadian Club, and had a passion for singing in the Dutch choir “Schorre Kikkertjes.” She was devoted to her family and was an exceptional wife, mother, and Omi to her granddaughters. Nel was caring and had a heart of gold, touching so many people that were blessed to have known her. Nel believed in the natural order of things and that eventually she would enter eternity, which for her meant that she would be at peace.
We love you, miss you, and you will forever be held in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life for Nel will be held at the Crestmont Hall (12400 Crestmont Blvd SW, Calgary) on February 29, 2020 at 2:30 pm.
