Obituary for Peter Dale Lance Hanou

Peter Dale Lance Hanou

Peter was born and raised by his mother, Patricia Brown and stepfather, Edwin Brown in Calgary Alberta and grew up with his sisters, Janice Brown, Glenda Francoeur (Roger) and brother, David Brown (Tammy). He was their big brother and will be missed greatly. Also, in the last three years during research through Ancestry.ca he discovered and was fortunate to meet family for the first time.

Peter had many childhood buddies whose friendship he cherished greatly. His close neighbours, Daryl, Ron, Glenn, Phil and his band mates Jon and Ross.

In 1973 he met the love of his life, Minnie, and they were married in 1975. Together they lived in Calgary for six years, then moved to Sicamous, B.C. where they lived for five years before moving back to Calgary. They welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Melissa Leigh into the world in 1982 and their handsome baby boy, Dane Joel in 1985.

Peter worked at CP Rail for a number of years and also for Calgary Animal Control where he adopted his first Scottish Terrier, MacTavish. While living in Sicamous he worked in the bush skidding logs for the mill. He worked for many years for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires as a security officer at the Calgary International Airport and the Springbank Airport.

Peter was very musical and played in a number of successful bands which almost always included his good friends, Ross, Jon and Daryl. He loved the blues and was an accomplished harmonica player and did a lot of the vocals and harmonies. He could play any type of music and his bands included Blues, Country, Rock and Roll and Cajun.

Two years ago, our daughter and son-in-law got him another Scottish Terrier he named Taffy MacTavish the Second. Taffy was his constant companion and misses him dearly.

We plan on having a Celebration of Peter’s Life as soon restrictions allow us to get together. We are fortunate to have recordings of his songs and harp playing so we will be listening to him sing and play.

The family would like to thank the first responders who were so professional and caring and helped us greatly, and also Choice Memorial for taking care of so much. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Peter, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
