Obituary for Paul Edward Broska

Paul Edward BROSKA
April 17, 1964 – September 30, 2022

It is with heavy heart that the family of Paul Broska announces his sudden passing on Friday, September 30, 2022 at the age of 58 years, holding the hand of his beloved partner, Lorie, with his mother Doreen and brother David at his side.

Paul’s life, by his own admission, was well lived. Partner, son, brother, friend, engineer, philanthropist, Paul wore all these hats with commitment, kindness, generosity, honesty, and a joy in life. Paul travelled extensively, relishing the wonders and experiences the world offered, both in the beauty of nature, and in the people and cultures he met. His extensive but immersive interests through time included hobbits, models, hockey, cars and car mechanics, aeronautics, volleyball, golf, cycling, Spanish, our energy future, hiking the mountains, and wide ranging subjects and musical genres, with a thirst for knowledge and life-long learning. Paul was blessed to be both handy and handsome. He led a life of happiness, and appreciated and valued every day. Paul deeply cherished the time he spent, and the memories he made, with his family and friends.

Paul was a talented Engineer and Project Manager. After graduating from the University of Alberta with a BSc. in Mechanical Engineering, he began his career contracted to work with Esso Chemical in Sarnia, where he made many lasting friendships and memories. When Paul moved to Calgary, he eventually continued his career at DPH Engineering and Encana where he worked for a combined twenty-three years. It was there that he continued to demonstrate his commitment, integrity, and strong work ethic, all which allowed him much success in his career. But his biggest passion was working and collaborating with his colleagues, and mentoring the next generation. The lasting relationships he forged provided him with a great amount of happiness and gratitude.

Paul will forever be lovingly remembered by his best friend and partner of twenty-three years, Lorie. He was pre-deceased by his mother-in-law Stephanie, and father-in-law Peter.

Paul will also forever be remembered by his parents Fred and Doreen, his sister Carol, his brother David, and his nephew Tyler, as well as his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Paul was a generous supporter of many helping organizations, including the MS Society of Canada (www.mssociety.ca ), Diabetes Canada ( www.diabetes.ca ), STARS Air Ambulance ( www.stars.ca ), CNIB Guide Dogs ( www.cnib.ca ), Alberta SPCA ( www.albertaspca.org ), and the Calgary Humane Society (www.calgaryhumane.ca ); memorial tributes may be made directly to any of them.

The family would like to thank the staff at Tom Baker, especially Drs. Cheng, Faruqi, and Girgis, and the compassionate team at Rosedale Hospice.

The world is too quiet now, without this wonderfully kind, warm, generous, honourable man.

We will miss him forever.

Until we meet again,

Life is good, one step at a time….
