Obituary for Patricia Mary Gilroy

PATRICIA MARY GILROY
JULY 30, 1934 - DEC. 15, 2022

Pat passed peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 88.

Pat was born in Leicester, England, a lively and energetic girl, and had many adventures growing up. She chose to pursue a career in nursing and worked in the profession until her retirement. She married Russell Gilroy in 1956 when he was overseas with the Canadian Air Force and shortly after had their first child. They moved to Canada in 1957 after having been stationed in Düsseldorf, Germany. Her first home in Canada was at Upland’s Air Force base just outside Ottawa. In 1969, from there the family moved to Gimli, Manitoba. When the Air Force based closed in Gimli in 1972, they relocated to Red Deer, Alberta for a short while before their final move to Calgary where they settled permanently with their large, boisterous family of 5 boys. She was a working mother through it all.

Outgoing and social, she was very much involved in her church and enjoyed many activities throughout her life including camping, water sports, Kinettes and Girl Guides; eventually volunteering with the Calgary Food Bank. Even in her last years she was involved with the residence council at AgeCare Midnapore for the benefit of all residents. She was a giving person to the end.

Pat is survived by her husband and her five boys and their wives - Scott (Barb), Kim (Connie), Steve (Maureen), Jeremy (Sandra), and Jeff (Marcy), and by her 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff of AgeCare Midnapore (Chaparral Unit)
