Obituary for Michael Wayne Reid

Michael Reid
June 20th, 1947 - Monday, April 20th, 2020

It is with great sadness the family of Michael Wayne Reid announce his passing. Mike left for his forever home Monday, April 20, 2020 at the age of 72.

Born in Thornhill, Ontario to father Lewis Watt Reid, and mother Catherine Myrtle Davies on June 20, 1947.

In the early 70's Mike was drawn to the Rocky Mountains in Banff, AB where he worked in the hospitality industry.

Mike loved the mountains and nature where he was often found hiking, cycling and taking in God's majestic beauty. One of his favourite things to do was seek out rare grizzly, black bear, wolf and cougar sightings on drives throughout the area with his wife Karen. He also loved to frequent the local coffee shops where he would soak up stories of near misses with the bears from the more seasoned locals. The stories were repeated many times!

Mike returned to Ontario (Thunder Bay) in the late 70's where he raised his 3 children and continued some of his favourite outdoor activities, cycling, rollerblading in addition to competitive cycling and cross country ski racing.

In 2005 Mike's love for the mountains called him back to Banff with his wife Karen, where they made many precious new friends at Banff Full Gospel Church.

Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen Joel-Reid; children, Clarissa Reid (Pat Angelo), Priscilla Reid-O‘Connor (Kelly O'Connor) and Jonathan Reid (Claire Reid); step-children, Nathan, Joel and Sarah Smith; grandchildren, Ashley Reid, Hannah O'Connor and Madison McDonald; sisters, Penny Moxon (Fred Moxon) and Pat Reid and niece Tara Laframboise (Colin Laframboise). Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike was known for his optimistic outlook on life and strong faith in God. He was passionate about his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Mike's favourite day of the week was Sunday when he couldn't wait to get to church to praise and worship at Calgary Life Church. The church that instantly became "home" for Mike and Karen the first time they walked through the doors that first Sunday in January 2019. They were immediately welcomed as family and were greatly supported in every way at their new church home.

Mike and Karen relocated to Calgary in December 2018 after Mike suffered a massive heart attack in November 2018. Wanting to be closer to the best possible medical care which often found them on the 8th or 10th floor of Foothills Hospital. Special thanks to all the amazing staff at Foothills for your love, care and patience as we walked through this difficult time.

Due to unprecedented times, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details will be provided when information becomes available. Family will be there to honor Mike with family and friends at that time.
