Michael (Mike) James Barnard
March 5th, 1977 - August 31st, 2019
On Saturday, August 31, 2019, Michael (Mike) James Barnard loving father of five children passed away at the age of 42. He was born March 5, 1977 in Estevan, Saskatchewan to Stan and Carol (Snell) Barnard. Mike graduated from SIAST as a heavy-duty mechanic. He would follow his passion for working with and repairing large machinery which would take him through the agricultural, mining and ultimately the heavy oil industries. Each move would challenge him with every increasing size and scale of machinery that would match his skills.
Mike had an enormous presence. At 6’3, 250lbs Mike was an intimidating figure of a man. To those who knew him, they would quickly realize that he was in fact a gentle giant who loved to engage in quick and intelligent banter with a good dose of sarcasm.
He loved and enjoyed a special relationship with each of his children, taking great pride in each of their achievements and offering encouragement to them. He was passionate about fitness, music, games, bird watching and great biographical stories (often on HBO).
Mike is survived by his wife Jennifer (Jen) Helena Marie and children Jeremy Adam James, Desiree Lee Anne, Morgan Danielle, Tristan Alexander and Arianna Caroline. His mother Carol, brothers: Dave (Michele), Allan (Meichihko), Dan (Chantelle) and Bob (Rachelle), numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father, Stanley Gordon Barnard.
For those who would like to pay their respects, a viewing is available Friday, September 6th between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Choice Memorial, 105-4715 13th Street NE.
Family, friends and all others whose lives were touched are invited to celebrate his life Saturday, September 7th at: Calgary Church of Christ, 4030 Maryvale Drive NE at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow to reminisce, grieve and enjoy the company of others who shared a part of Mike’s story. Refreshments will be served.
