Mervin Falkenberg passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 with family at his side at Bethany Riverview in Calgary at the age of 73, after a lengthy time living with Lewy Body Dementia. He was the beloved husband of Janet Falkenberg (Bergstresser).

Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Mervin moved with his family from the farm to Winnipeg where he met his wife Janet when he was 19. They got married one year later in 1968 during a short two week period when he and my mom were the same age. He is survived by his wife Janet, two sons Sean (Shon) and Dean (Sherry), and grandchildren Kingston and Jodeanna.

Devoted son of Alex (Alexander) and Leona Falkenberg (both pre-deceased), Mervin was loved and adored by his surviving younger siblings Gordon (Sue), Allen (Pat), Norma (Brian Shrimpton), and numerous loved and cherished nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Mervin lived for his family.

Mervin moved his family to Calgary in 1979 with Haliburton, and again with them to Africa in the early eighties for a year. In 1983, they moved back to Calgary where they resided ever since. Mervin was a career Accountant (CMA), holding executive positions at Enterra Oilfield (Key), Badger Daylighting, and numerous consulting positions. Mervin spent almost 20 years operating a nursery and greenhouse business with his wife and son, finally retiring in 2016.

We cannot thank the Staff at Bethany Riverview enough for the care and support during our beloved father and husband’s final years. We also want to thank the many Nurses and Doctors over the years for supporting our family as we navigated this journey.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mervin’s name to Bethany Riverview or the Calgary Parkinson’s Society (for research).
