Obituary

Jassman, Melvin Stanley
November 17, 1939 – November 18, 2019

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Melvin Jassman, age 80 following a battle with brain cancer. Melvin is lovingly remembered by his wife Arla of 55 years; son Brian (Judy); daughter Nela (Keith); grandson Laine Hiebert; granddaughter Brittney Jassman; brothers Marvin (Lousie) and Dennis; brother-in-law Arnie (Anne) Sollberger; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mel was born on the family farm near Mendham, SK to parents Elsie and Ted Jassman. He moved with his family to Three Hills, AB where he attended the public school and was involved in many sports. Mel married Arla Sollberger July 11, 1964, residing in Mayland Heights for 35 years. He worked for Arpis Industries for 30 years, teaching many young people the plumbing trade.

Mel and Arla enjoyed many years camping with family in the Sundre area. His last few years were spent being part of the Rosewood Resort family near Sundre.

Mel was an active member of Centre Street Church where he was an usher for over 50 years. He was also a part of the Maranatha Group.

Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at Centre Street Church (3900-2nd Street NE) on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 1:00 pm (please park in the West lot). In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.ca) or to a charity of your choice. I have so so many wonderful memories of Mr Jassmin. One that stands out is Nela, Brian and I riding in the back of his truck all the way to the Shuswap to go camping for a week. Your home was my second home and Mr Jassmin and the whole family always welcomed me with open arms and still do to this day. My heart broke when I heard the sad news but I am very happy that he is no longer suffering. I pray that God draws you close to him over the nexts weeks/months and allows all the wonderful memories you hold in your heart to comfort you. When the nights come and the hurt is so great I pray God wraps his loving arms around you and holds you tight. You all mean the world to me!

I remember Melvin and his Edsel car, so proud, we Trochu girls dated the Three Hills guys. Arla was lucky to marry this great guy.
