Melanie Larocque
March 14th, 1971 - August 8th, 2019
Melanie (Mel) Kirsten Larocque, age 48, youngest of four children, passed away August 8, 2019 at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, AB with her siblings by her side, after a short, hard fought battle against breast cancer.
Melanie was born in Sudbury, ON on March 14, 1971. She lived in Capreol, ON until she moved to Kamloops, BC with her family in 1978. Melanie and her family moved in 1979 to Vancouver Island (Port McNeil and Port Hardy), and then moved back to Kamloops in 1981. She graduated from Norkam Secondary School in 1990, and then moved to Calgary, AB in 1994 in search of employment. She started a job at News West / Acculogix in a warehouse position where she learned all the ins and outs, and worked her way up to a manager position. After 13 years, she decided to take a break and went soul searching for a year and half. In 2010 she started a job at Walmart Logistics / Supply Chain Management, also a warehouse position, and then switched to a desk job within the company as Transportation Administration Clerk. She was still employed there when she became ill.
Melanie enjoyed spending time with her siblings and close friends, soaking up the sun, going for longs walks with beautiful scenery, playing with family/friend’s fur babies, and watching movies. She made many, many trips back to BC to visit family and friends. She had the opportunity to travel a few times, and she really enjoyed Costa Rica. Melanie was also quite artistic and creative, and you got to see her talent come out for Halloween. She always did a fabulous job of looking gruesome, and she encouraged and helped others to participate in what might have been her favorite day of the year.
Melanie is survived by her siblings Jeff (Ruth) Larocque, Kelly (Randy) Colclough, and Lianne (Darwin) Dwornik; her father Romeo (Anne) Larocque; and six niece's and nephew's, Dustin and Cody, Jasmine and Adam, and Gavin and Carly.
At Melanie’s request there will not be a formal service, but please feel free to gather together in your groups and raise a toast in her honour.
Her ashes will be scattered by her family atop the Enderby Cliffs.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please plant a native flower in the spring for the butterflies.
