Obituary for Mary Joan Gubitz (Hamilton)

Mary Joan Gubitz
May 12th, 1938 - January 6th, 2020

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Joan Gubitz on Monday, January 6, 2020.

Born and raised in Calgary, Mary was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Alice Hamilton, as well as her siblings Herb, Wayne, and Jeanette.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Peter. Mary is also survived by her son Gord (Don), her daughter Karen (John), and her beloved granddaughters Gillian and Breanne, as well as nieces and nephews.

Mary loved to play squash at the North Family YMCA. She was an avid lawn bowler with the Rotary Park Lawn Bowling Club, and had the opportunity to represent Alberta at numerous championships across the country. She also enjoyed her association with the Husky Oil Retirement Club, and St. Pius X Church.

Grandma will be missed at all of Gillian’s Stampede Showband performances and Breanne's softball games. She loved to watch and cheer them on!

At Mary’s request, no visitation or memorial service will be held at this time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the lymphoma society (llsc.donorportal.ca).

You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see her,
or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and have yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she's gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back,
or you can do what she'd want :
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
