Melnyk, Marvin Lawrence

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Marvin - husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

On October 4, 2022, Marvin passed away peacefully with family by his side after bravely fighting cancer for 10 years.
To cherish his memory, Marvin leaves behind his loving wife, Anne-Marie; daughter, Sheila (Curtis); son, James (Hanh); his treasured grandchildren, Paige, Caleb, Max and Sam; his brother, Harry (Diane); his sisters, Sophie, Anne (Bernard), Vivian (Peter) and Beverly (Murray); as well as many nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews and friends. Marvin was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Joseph Melnyk of Canora, Saskatchewan; brothers, Peter and Joseph; sisters, Tekla and Pauline; grandbaby, Elijah, and nephews, Lydell, Lucas and David.

To know Marvin was to know how caring, kind, generous and thoughtful he was. Always strong, brave, humble and always focusing on the good. He lived life enjoying his family and friends
.
He loved farming and his career in the print industry. He began printing at the young age of 15, after school, printing the town newspaper eventually becoming a manager of commercial print for a national company in Regina and Edmonton.

Over the years he enjoyed soccer, coaching children and becoming a national referee earning honours as referee of the year in Saskatchewan. He also spent many years volunteering and as a board member of the Regina Lions Jr. Band.

Green is the colour he wore proudly for his Roughriders, a loyal fan and supporter all his life.

Travelling near and far, from day trips checking farmers’ fields, fishing and to the mountains as well as trips across Canada, the US, Mexico and France, Marvin enjoyed meeting people and discovering new adventures.

We give our deepest gratitude to Dr. Usmani and staff at the Cross Cancer Institute, Edmonton; Dr. Cheng and staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Calgary; Holy Cross Rehabilitation Oncologists and Dr. Bajwa, Calgary. Thank you to Nicole and the Palliative Home Care Team, Kim and the pharmacist team at Lakeview Plaza and to everyone who cared for and supported Marvin through the years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 11:00 am at Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services (105-4715 13 St NE, Calgary, AB).

In remembrance of Marvin, a smile when thinking of him or when doing an act of kindness to help children or any good deed in his memory is all he would ask.

Your memory will never leave us. Rest in peace.
