Obituary for Marjory Barber (Simmons)

Mrs. Majory Baber (Simmons)

Marjory was born March 8th, 1933 and passed on a beautiful winter day on Tuesday, December 29th, 2020.

Marjory was a very outgoing & adventurous woman all of her life, travelling to the Queen’s Coronation and later her Wedding. Marj was fascinated with the Royal Family and loved to talk about her trips abroad. She was the only child of Tammer and Percy Simmons. After her Mother’s passing Marj spent a lot of time in Calgary’s Fire Hall #1 with her Dad, Percy.

She loved hiking, snowshoeing and was an avid photographer. She was a much loved part of the Squirrely Snowshoers’, founded in Canmore. It was here that she became an Aunt to a rambunctious group of us kids and became a Dear Friend. She loved nature, the outdoors, all of her kids she collected along the way and had a deep love for all animals.

Marjory married later in life and her and Jim had no children of their own. She considered Candace, Colleen and Roxanna her girls. To our kids she became known as Aunt Marjie. Marj & Jim moved in with us when they could no longer live on their own, making our family a little bigger. Marjory’s professional career was with Alberta Government Telephones. Marjory & Jim were avid supporters of the Calgary Philharmonic, often taking our young family members to introduce them to “the right kind of music”.

Marj will be dearly missed by her friends; Lydia Maerle, the Craig Family, Louise Aboussafy, Kim Henrich and the Indergaard Fleming & Rimbey Families & Staff at the house.

I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart, Dr. MJ Shankel, Dr. Skinner, Fran Chouinard and the Staff at Bow View Manor for their care and support provided to Marjory throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marj’s memory would be appreciated to any animal rescue.
A Grave Side service will be held in the spring. Rest well Dear Lady. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Marj, please visit www.choicememorial.com
