Obituary for Marion Constance Aldrich (Waterhouse)
MARION CONSTANCE ALDRICH
Marion Constance (Waterhouse) Aldrich, born April 6, 1927 to Ethel and Harry Waterhouse, passed away May 21, 2019, at the age of 92, in Calgary, Alberta.
She was predeceased by her husband Vern Aldrich, her parents, and six siblings. Douglas(Lily), Jack(Rita), Margaret (Arne Rosenberg), Muriel (Jack Martin), Richard(infant) and Bob. She is survived by sisters-in- law, Nolys Waterhouse and Avon MacArthur, her god children and special friend Betty Belitz, and many cousins, nieces and nephews who treasure the memories of her enthusiasm and charm. She conveyed a sense of fun and joy even when her own circumstances were challenging or difficult. Independence and freedom were very important to her.
Marion grew up on the farm at Parkside, Saskatchewan. She received her education at Honeywood School and completed hair dressing training while living with her aunt Lena Naylor in Edmonton. She had a variety of jobs in British Columbia from picking fruit, to processing fish, to serving food and beverage. While living in Whitehorse, Yukon she met and married Malcolm (Slim) MacMillan and enjoyed many great outdoor adventures. She was featured in a magazine article as being a young woman working as a hunting guide and a bush pilot, quite unique in the 1950’s. She was devastated when Slim's life ended in a plane crash just a few months after their wedding.
She was still living in Whitehorse when she met Vern, with whom she shared over forty years of marriage, until his death in 1998.
Marion had a lifelong love of horses. Many of her favorite memories and stories featured her horses.
She was also passionate about gardening and landscaping and she had many beautiful yards and gardens in the places she made home. Never afraid of hard work it was a manifestation of her creative and artistic nature.
We were fortunate to have had such a special lady play a part in our lives.
Cremation has already taken place. An inurnment will be held at the Honeywood Cemetery near Parkside, Saskatchewan on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 1:30 pm. Immediately following, family and friends are invited to gather at a lunch and a time of fellowship at the School in Parkside, Saskatchewan.
